  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

He is SUCH a good actor!
Like in Pirates of the C., he just becomes the character! :)
Anyway, he's in a lot of weird stuff (the kind i wouldn't tend to watch) an' I was wondering if anybody here would recommend any certain movie of his.
I'm thinking about seeing "Sleepy Hollow"...

hes very versatile and can be very entertaining and funny in some films whereas other times quite indimidating and quite scary ('the astronauts wife' which was on television the other night), im definately a big fan of his, plus i think hes a very down to earth kind of guy from what ive heard putting in personal requests to appear in little known uk comedy shows such as 'the vicar of dibley' and 'little britain' to name but two ;)

im not sure but i think he was in 'absolutely fabulous' too ?

Let's see...

Benny & Joon, Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Chocolat, Finding Neverland (still in theatres), POTC, From Hell (based on the Jack the Ripper murders), Blow, Secret Window, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Don Juan DeMarco, Sleepy Hollow, Donnie Brasco (there is "foul language" in this one as well as violence), etc etc etc..lol. Basically pick anything and watch it. Pretty much guaranteed to be good...
BTW that is only a small listing of his movies, he's done at least over 30 films I believe.

I thought Sleepy Hollow was a bit boring, but I was really only half watching it at the time. I really like "Crybaby" alot, it's very funny, a parody of "Grease" type musicals. I can also recomend as the others have, "Chocolat" and"Edward Scissorhands". My sister really likes "Ed Wood", though I myself haven't seen it. I am really looking forward to "Charlie and the Chocolate factory" this summer too.

I used to really like Johnny Depp as both an actor and person, however, that's changed. Any respect I had for him as a person kind of disappeared after I heard of his bashing America thing. I am so disappointed him for doing such a thing. I never knew he had such opinions.:sigh: I still do like his acting, I just can't really look at him as just a person the same way now...:(

He didn't "bash" America. Magazine have total control over what they want to print and how they want to interpret what a person says. What he said was completely misintrepreted. All he was saying was that America was and still is a young country in terms of existance and well their "world power". There are other countries and civilizations that are significantly older than the US. So in that sense America is a young country, or a puppy as what I believe he said. US is the pup where as other countries are kind of the older/wiser dog... I am very much paraphrasing here as I am having a hard time finding a quote for this. But he wasn't saying it to bash America. He generally doesn't seem to talk about his political views. Also when that interview was printed, he personally phone people (the magazine and such) and explained himself and what he originally meant and how they had misprinted what he was saying. It was the magazine that made him look like a jerk, not what he was saying.

Well, I don't know much about him, and I haven't acctually seen many of his movies - but I do enjoy his acting and I plan to probably see a few more of his films - ABSOLUTELY Finding Neverland!

I wish they'd get it in Theatre here. This town is relatively small, with only two screens, so we don't get much, and we usually get it late! They're working on a ten-screen theatre in mid-town, though!!! :D:D:D

Yes, he was very good in Pirates of the Caribbean. I'd like to go see Finding Neverland, however, I'm the only one, nobody wants to see it, therefore they don't want to take me. I guess I'll just have to rent it when it comes on video or something.

Johnny Depp is a wonderful actor. He's versitile, interesting, and gives each character he inhabits an honest feel.

He didn't "bash" America. He viewed his opinions, which were not hateful towards America in the least, but instead critical of people who believe that America has nothing to learn from the rest of the world. (And I agree with Johnny's view, as the same goes for all countries) I have yet to hear a statement from Johnny Depp which is hateful, rude, or violent toward the USA or any other country, and I doubt I will.

Johnny Depp's wonderful, and he's been in a fair few movies as well. I tend to like the stuff he was in before he got all of this popularity, although The Secret Window was a nice one. I'd say that my favorite movie of his was Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas, it isn't very mainstream in most (if any) senses, but it is a wonderfully hilarious story. Depp had to shave his head to get the part, and it took me a while to figure out that he was actually the main character. That, and the whole rest of the movie was a hilarious trip to watch.

*chuckle* Of the many posters so far on this thread, 2 are male, 1 isn't showing their gender, and the remaining ten or so are female. Do you suppose this implies anything about Depp's popularity? ;)

lol. While the man is gorgeous. I am more interested in his acting and the movies he makes than his looks. So don't throw me in there with that group. ;)

Anyways, I am extremely proud of this, Johnny Depp just won the People's Choice Award for favorite male actor tonight. Very happy about this. Let's just hope he goes on to win the gloden globe and the oscar as well!! :D :D :D
