A slight rephrase of the original question. Can a BORN AGAIN Christian lose [his salvation] or depart from the faith.
The term born again (or more correctly born from above) means that the subject was chosen to be adopted into God's family by none other than God the Father. "God chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace." (Eph 1:4-7) It was God's idea (His will) to save us, not ours.
John 10:28-30 "I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” So no, a born from above Christian cannot lose his salvation or depart from the faith. Now a "notional Christian" can because he has a notion that he is a Christian. According to Barna Research only about 10% of all who profess to be a Christian are a Christian from a biblical perspective.
