BOTH harm... in different ways.
Not quite as bad as Jim Jones or David Koresh. Denominationlism is just as harmful to Christianity as Evangelicalism.
Even Islam and Judaism are fractured religions.

Matthew 12:25 Having known yet, the Jesus, their thoughts He said to them, "every kingdom being-divided against herself is desolated; and every City or House being-divided against herself not shall be standing":

Matt 7:26 And all the one hearing of Me the words, these, and no doing them shall be likened to a man, stupid/foolish, whoany builds of him the house upon the sand. 27 And descended the rains and the streams and blow the winds and they toward-strike the house, that, and she falls and was the fall of her Great

Reve 14:8 And another messenger, second-one, follows saying "she falls, she falls, Babylon the Great, the out of the wine of the fury of the fornication of her she has given to drink all the nations. [Jeremiah 51:8]

Joel sounds like the Anthony Robbins with Christian window dressing; the Prosperity Gospel he preaches fills Stadiums, if he preached Christ crucified, repentance, and the reality of Hell and walking the narrow road, people would leave in droves.
Then they would have to decide whether to turn Baptist, Pentecost, Catholic, Lutheran, Orthodox etc.....so what difference would it make :D

k but that's going off topic...

Today in church this morning we learned about what we should be able to witness when people ask about our faith (everyone should be able to give answer for the hope that is in them).
We got a very comprehensive lesson on witnessing our faith to have something more than just "I believe".

Excellent sermon to equip us in real life.
Joel teaches: "just keep thinking positive that everything will be alright & God wants you to prosper. Have a nice day folks! see ya next week".

Isn't witnessing Great! I myself have nothing at all against J.O.

Btw, I am a non-Denominational "Preterist", so is that ok with the non-"Preterist" Denominations here?

Reve 7:13 And answered one out of the elders saying to me "these, the ones having-been-about-cast/peri-beblhmenoi <4016> (5772) the robes, the whites, who-any they-are and whence they came"? [Revelation 11:3]

Joel Osteen is a great speaker, and has a lot of positive uplifting things to say. However, in the end he's just a motivational speaker.

My dad listens to Joel every Sunday. He agrees that Joel's theology is not perfect, and that he is mostly motivational, but my father, who is 85, has been fighting depression and finds Joel uplifting.
I have to admit I like his comments about attitude. It seems alot of people screw up their lives with a bad attitude and then try to blame God, or feel God isn't answering - when it is really just the person causing their own problems due to their attitude toward others and things.

Where is Joel Osteen sowing seed? He is certainly not taking care to plant seeds on good ground.

Praise God…that even though His children would love to eat sweets all day long…He provides veggies and meat so that we can grow strong IN HIM. However, we can leave the table whenever we choose…and stroll on over to the buffet of cakes and cookies Mr Osteen serves up.

I have no problem with the man, himself, (that's between him and God) but I do however have grave concerns about his “self-help” message and those seeds being sown on the wayside and the stony and thorny ground.

Joel Osteen isnt the only preacher. Ones like Hagee present a much stronger message but not alot of people like him because he speaks the truth and dosent always deliver it with a message of syrup like Osteen does.
But - both ways are correct.
Joel Osteen never claimed to preach anything but a message of peace and joy. Thats his way of preaching.
Theres nothing wrong with that.

Yep...and I also believe that God can use Osteen and the Holy Spirit can move through anyone...vessels for dishonor are usable just as vessel for honor.

And it's cool your dad discerns Osteen's theology and gleens the portions that are beneficial. :)

I agree..perhaps Hagee is the other end of the spectrum..but I can't say that both are correct...IMHO...both extremes are incorrect and are fine examples of WHY balanced teaching by our pastors from Scripture is SO IMPORTANT. (but if I could ONLY choose from the 2...I would have to go with Hagee's teaching...LOL...I would rather be over fed than starving)

I doubt many tune into both Hagee and Osteen...LOL...perhaps they should ^_^ (joking)...Unfortunately...I consider the two extremes coming from 2 different pastors would lend to more confusion than edification though..:o...

IMHO...it's the full measure of God's word that gives us the spiritual nourishment, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to walk with our Lord, rest peacefully in Him, stay on the narrow path, avoid the pitfalls and stumbling blocks to stand steadfast and endure to the end!

Praise God!

I see Hagee and Olsteen as different as night and day. Hagee I believe has been classified as a radical Zionist by others whereas Joel rarely mentions Israel, hellfire or Endtimes much.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/max-blumenthal/aipac-cheers-an-antisemi_b_43377.html

It should come as no surprise then that an anti-Semitic Holocaust apologist like Pastor John Hagee was invited to AIPAC, and was given a raucous ovation. As I reported for the Nation last year, through his new lobbying organization, Christians United for Israel, Hagee is emerging as the most influential leader of the Christian Zionist movement, which has bolstered the Israeli right with the grassroots muscle of the evangelical right.

I go on to explain in detail that Hagee is a dangerous crackpot whose stated desire is to see Israel engage in an apocalyptic nuclear war with Iran.

It's called sugarcoating....

People tend to get offended alot when they are told the truth. And Joel Osteen does - just in a different way. Hes right - God does love us all. Thats the message he is spreading.

I watch both of them. lol
I love to watch them because one is all sugar and spice and one is 'this is the way it is'.. i like both of the messages. They mesh well - in a way. lol

Of course they are different. That was my point.
Hagee is a wonderful preacher. He is just unliked and misunderstood by some because he tells it like it is. A rare thing these days..to actually tell the truth.
He is for Israel - so is God. Theres nothing wrong with that either.

Howdy. But does he understand the Bible. His Carnal view of the "endtimes" differs from my reading of the Scriptures ;)

Luke 21:24 shows it is future

Hi there. Didn't Jesus prophecy that while the Temple/Sanctuary was still standing

Luke 21:24 And they shall be falling to mouth of sword and they shall be being led Captive into all the nations and Jerusalem shall be being trodden by nations until which may be being filled Times of Nations. [Ezekiel 30:1]

Reve 13:10 If any into captivity, into captivity he is led away. If any in sword to be killed, is binding them in sword to be killed. Here is the endurance and the faith of the saints. [Luke 21:24]

Ezekiel 30:1 And a word of YHWH is becoming to me to say of 2 "Son of adam, prophesy thou! and thou say, 'Thus says my Lord YHWH: "Wail ye!, 'Woe! for Day!' 3 that near Day, and near Day to YHWH; Day of cloud, Time of Nations shall become.

I would love for you to watch something if you have the time.
Its 7 parts long - but Hagee explains what he believes to be true about the end times and bible prophecies.

Greetings. Yes he is pretty controversial. I never read any of the "left behind" series of books either as it just appears the Lord led me away from them.
Here is an interesting site on Hagee and since he is a Christian, it is not up to me to judge him or his views just as I do not judge J.O. or other evangelicals/preachers/ministers/priests and their views of the Bible.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/08/hagees-revenge-videos-of_n_111373.html?page=3

Late last week, with no prior notification, lawyers for the controversial evangelist John Hagee had a series of videos concerning the pastor removed from YouTube. The clips spanned from the contentious to the mundane; some included footage lifted from sermons Hagee had already made public, others involved documentaries made by filmmakers inside Hagee's conventions. All told more than 120 videos were taken down in the abrupt sweep.

Hmmm...seems those people will do anything to put down what Hagee says. Whats wrong with him telling the truth on you tube? I dont get it...

I love the left behind movies. I have all 3 of them. They have great messages. All of them go according to the bible.

Greetings. To each their own I always say. I do not listen to evangelicals on TV nor do I even watch TV that much. The LB series might be entertaining for some, but I just have no interest in them myself.
