Am I the only one who finds this description "Joe Six-Pack American" to be patronizing and offensive? I was raised in a working class neighborhood by "salt of the earth" type people and neither my parents, nor most of the hard-working Americans I have ever known were or are drunks who regularly chug a six-pack of beer over the course of watching a ballgame. I was taught that this is something that only worthless lazy slobs do. This is what Republican political discourse has descended to-- the "real" American Joe Six-Pack versus the "Liberal Elitists". Elitists like Obama, a Black man who "doesn't know his place", and dared to better himself by getting a good education instead of hanging around chugging beer.

Sarah Palin ain't no Joe Six Pack.

When she was a beauty queen she may have had six pack abs....don't know, don't care.

But six-packs ain't biblical. And here's the official position of her church.

For two reasons we urge all believers to avoid the Satanic tool of alcohol which destroys lives, damns souls, and blights society: (1) A studied review of the Scriptures affirms a stern warning against intoxicating drink and a call to separation from this evil for the purpose of better service to God and mankind; and (2) Current social abuses and the public outrage over the high cost of alcohol in terms of human misery, death, and destruction of property cry out with urgency for the church of Jesus Christ to oppose firmly any use whatsoever of a beverage which so insidiously afflicts and binds the bodies and minds of men and women.

Yes, indeedy, now she's pretending to be "Joe Six Pack" when actually she's Trudy Temperance.

I'm also one of those who wants "the best and brightest" in the White House. Saying someone can be brought up to speed regardless of their background, education, etc. is basically the same as saying we can pull anyone off the street and, with a little effort, they can be effective in office. No way. I understand the appeal of "regular joe", but I consider myself a little more intelligent that "regular joe" and I don't even want ME in the White House.

You think it was mortality that kept him smoking while his wife had a high profile position at a high profile hospital? He was unapologetic until the day he formed a committee and then he quit. Of course it for votes, the timing is too coincidental.

"

It is bizarre that you would see a man's concern for his own long term health through the prism of partisan politics.

That is rather sad.

You also seem to be completely unaware of the large number of doctors who actually smoke regardless of the health risks, so his wife's position in a hospital is rather beside the point.

What is her church's stance on representing Joe Six-Pack?

As I interpret their quote:

For two reasons we urge all believers to avoid the Satanic tool of alcohol which destroys lives, damns souls, and blights society:

Joe Six Pack is a "destroyed life, a damned soul, and a blight on society."

So I can only assume that after she get the dinosaurs out of the textbooks she'll work on shipping those Budweiser Clydesdales back to Austria.

The EXACT same questions pertain to Barack Obama.

Do you want to fly in a commercial airliner with a guy who just started flying anything?

Do you want your special forces to be manned by 70 year old veterans with more experience? each field has its specifications and not all fields are alike. Airline pilots are not people who just started flying anything. No airline would allow for such a thing. Also a highly trained young pilot is better than a pilot who may be older with more hours but with very poor training. In the airline industry; Pilot training is crucial to safe flying.
Intellect and experience are not mutually exclusive. What this world needs is intelligent and bright politicians who take into consideration the experience gained by their older colleagues. Obama wants to resolve international tensions through the use of dialogue, Palin and Mc Cain want to use sheer ignorance and brute force;

Is it possible that many people here are mis-understanding the whole "Joe Six-Pack" reference? I don't know exactly what was meant by it, by the person who initially said it.

But when I've heard that phrase, I got the picture of your regular guy who has a six-pack of beer in the refrigerator, as opposed to your blue-blood snoot who chooses which bottle of Chardonnay to bring up out of the wine cellar.

I guess I didn't think of it as being derogatory - suggesting the guy always sits down a chugs a six-pack.

Maybe I'm missing something.

So based on that, it's your positiopn that her church believes that Joe Six Pack should not be represented in government business? Interesting interpretation

Here is Webster's definition of joe six pack

an ordinary man ; specifically : a blue-collar worker

Reality once again shows its conservative bias

Yeah, but what does Webster know. His helicopter was never forced down in Afghanistan.

It does tell us, however, that Sarah Palin has a better grasp on vocabulary than many of our left leaning friends

I suppose it is conceivable that there must be a few people in the US denser than her, and some of them may even be left wing, but they aren't running for Vice President

And yet I have seen not one of our left leaning friends who was able to grasp her intent regarding Joe Six Pack

Kinda like leftists, who didn't graduate from either Yale or Harvard, carping about how stupid George Bush is.

Unless you provide the name of the college you attended, and a photo student ID, you are lying.

And I completed my graduate studies 15 years ago. 3.92 CGPA. But never mind. You'll just say I'm lying anyway. That's your ready answer when you can't come up with anything better.

no. you are the one that accuses others of lying, just like you did in this post. you do it over and over, then you supply the above credentials but don't feel it is necessary for you to provide the proof that you demand from everyone else. you are being comically hypocritical. it reads like a spoof. based on the first half of your post, you are lying about your past in the second half. i don't think you are, mind you, but that is what YOU are saying in the first half. don't you see how pathetic this is?

no one needs to provide the proof. if you want to lie about your background, who cares? it's the internet. i told you i dropped out of harvard. if i was lying i certainly would have graduated with honors, but i didn't. i left. no one cares, though, ultimately. none of this helps us make our cases on here. we either are persuasive and provide good evidence, or we don't. the next time you call someone out for lying about personal history i will report you. you claim this with no evidence to back up your position, just anger and a vacant intellectual argument. grow up and get in the game.
