  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The National Archives has a new recording of the shooting, theyre trying to figure it out as we speak.
They have the Dictagragh belt from the DPD. It recorded the event when a motorcycle cop's radio was on. It is well worn and fragile, but they may soon have a way to scan it optically and recover the data without damaging it.

Lone gunman, no conspiracy is my opinion. But then again, I am rather uneducated when it comes to the Kennedy assasination so I may not be correct. I just think it was some mentally ill idiot who decided he wanted to get some sort of revenge by killing him.

Well I can tell you that I saw the whole thing on tv when I was 5 yrs. old in my school's auditorium on a super sized tv where the whole school watched. Just seconds after he was shot, the whole school was ushered into the auditorium to watch it being recorded live. There were so many tears from tv reporters & people who were being interviewed on tv at the scene. There were even tears flowing down some of the teachers' faces as my teachers watched. We sat there all afternoon watching it until school was out. (And don't forget I'm Canadian & not American! I can only just imagine simialar or more intense scenes in the schools & homes in America.)

Anyway....I should add something that probably not too many have thought of. The Kennedy family were the most LOVED & the most HATED family at that time (in the early 60's.) Marilyn Munro had an affair with JFK before he was Pres. & she mysteriously ended up dead by a drug overdose, yet she was Christian & never did drugs. I'm not saying there is a connection between her death & JFK, only that she had a mysterious death & it was well known (after her death) that she & JFK were an item. This point I bring out only to show that they were a very POPULAR family & not just the most well loved American family, but also the most hated (because of their popularity & politics). It was never proven conclusively how or why Marilyn Munro died & remains a mystery.

By the way...for the record, I loved Marilyn Munro as a kid & I also loved JFK as America's most favourite & most loved politician before he died. I have nothing against either one of them but I might have memories that others may have fogotten about.

Here is a quote from Kenny Kingston on Marilyn's death:

On August 5th 1962 the world was shaken by the announcement that Hollywood icon and universal sex symbol Marilyn Monroe was dead.

Apparently she had taken an overdose of barbiturates and was discovered by her housekeeper, Eunice Murray, late the previous night. Details surrounding her death were strangely scant as the media saw fit to celebrate her life rather than mourn her passing. What the media didn’t bank on was how much the world actually loved Marilyn. The public wanted details. Besides which something didn’t ring true. Marilyn may have been through a bad period but the past few months had seen her life arc take an upward turn. She was once again seeing the love of her life, Joe DiMaggio, and they were planning to be married on August 8th. Twentieth Century Fox had reinstated her contract and she had been offered an unprecedented $250,000 to complete her role in Something’s Got To Give. Marilyn appeared to be happier than she had been in years.

Slowly the circumstances surrounding her death began to leak into public domain. It simply didn’t compute. Firstly if she had taken such enormous quantities of pills - there were at least eight empty containers at here bedside - why then was there not trace of pill residue found in her stomach? Why was there bruising on her body? Why had the body been moved? Why did it take so long before the police were informed. And why when they got there was Eunice Murray already laundering Marilyn’s bed sheets? Why were her diaries, letters and telephone tapes all missing? Even her Fox contacts were missing. And, most importantly, why did Robert Kennedy call on her that very evening and reportedly have an argument?[/QUOTE]

Marilyn’s death has been the bane of conspiracy theorists the world over. There are plenty of nut-job theories but even the majority of them share one simple and very important thread - John and Robert Kennedy; both of whom were alleged to have had affairs with Marilyn. They were renowned socialites and enjoyed the company of Hollywood’s biggest and baddest stars. Indeed, doomed rat-packer Peter Lawford was an in-law. They partied with the likes of Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby and took every advantage of their showbiz connections to enhance their profiles, appearing in photo-spreads in the company of Tinseltown’s finest. It was good PR and the Kennedy dynasty needed all the good publicity they could garner. What’s more, it was working. JFK was and still is the most popular US President of all time. Having the most beautiful woman in the world at your dinner table or singing Happy Birthday to you in public was surely the icing on the cake. But somewhere along the line things started getting messy. The rumour mill was closing in. Marilyn was suspected of being more than an acquaintance, more than a close friend. Something had to give. Then rumours emerged that Marilyn was calling a press conference and claimed she was going to ‘blow the lid off of Washington.’ It was time to cut her loose.
1985 the US TV programme 20/20 pulled the broadcast of a British-made award-winning documentary, Say Goodbye To The President, and Geraldo Rivera was sacked for protesting against its censorship. The film virtually confirmed that Marilyn Monroe did indeed have affairs with both JFK and RFK. This was twenty-three years after her death, twenty-two years after JFK’s assassination and 17 years after the assassination of Robert Kennedy. Need we say more?

One shooter, Oswald as the sole loner-loser-looney shooter.

Everything I can say, Gerald Posner does it better in Case Closed.

Having said that, some points. I used to believe in conspiracy, until I started to get into firearms, marksmanship, and practical ballistics. Then what the conspiracy advocates (CA's) were saying became more and more utter nonsense.

1) The "pristine" "magic bullet" only looks like it from one photographed angle. From anywhere else, it's bent like a bananna--utterly consitent with being slowed down by a soft tissue hit, slowing it below the terminal velocity that would have shattered it upon hiting Connaley's bones
2) The Cacarno rifle is not a "piece of junk". On the contrary, it accuracy and reliability of the cacarno made it one of the best bolt action rifles of WW2. The 6.5mm class or rifle cartridges is known for it's flat trajectory and lethality--better withoin it's range than military .30 calibres. And in it's class, the Cacarno was better than the Japanese Ariska, 2nd only to the Swedish 6.5mm service rifle (we are talking 1.5 inch groups with issue iron sights at 100 yards---that's .75 inch spread from the center of the group!)
3) According to a former USMC General in charge of marksmanship, LHO "compared to the general public was an excellent shot". For most of his usmc career, LHO shot "sharpshooter"--the marksmanship rating was his last, performed after two months on guard duty when he hadn't been getting his accustomed range time. In the USSR sojourn, LHO belonged to a sanctioned rifle club and back in the USA, he was notorious for rapid fire bolt work, annoying other shooters at those ranges, dead centering their targets and not just his.

...more to come

I've been in that building, which is now a museum, and looked out of the window next to the actual window and tried to imagine hitting a moving target from there. I don't know...

I live in the Dallas area, have also been in that museum and also looked out the window next to the actual window from where Oswald allegedly shot JFK. I don't see anywhere on God's green earth where Oswald could've done such a feat. He was a mediocre shot at best. One very lucky shot... I could buy. 3 very lucky shots would just be impossible. I firmly believe that he was setup to take the fall.

4) The afore mentioned "studies" that show LHO didn't have the time to make three shots (Warren and CBS) got the starting assumption wrong. LHO was already loaded up (round in chamber) when the motorcade rounded the corner. That takes at least 2 seconds off the sequence. The firing clock starts with LHO's first shot. BOOM, (start clock) rack action, BOOM, rack action BOOM and the presidential driver finaly reacts and peels off at that point, Jackie starts to climb over the trunk obstructing further shots, etc... This sequence of events was corroberated by three "ear" witnesses in the floor right beneath the Depository sniper nest--but were even ignored by the Warren commision who were stuck on the "two bullet theory" and possibly because all three witnesses were African-American. Also, LHO was notorious with his neighbors in New Orleans, who would hear him practicing rack-action and dry-fire drills on his Cacarno for hours in his back yard. Such practice was not included by those faulty studies--such practice that leads to the capability to easily reload and fire two more shots in 6 seconds.
5) The latest computer reconstructions, using the Zapruder film as a percise time clock, show that LOH's first, pre-loaded shot was probably deflected by the oak tree. The remaining two shots--perfectly clear (There's a PBS Frontline that shows this computer 3-D reconstruction)
6) LHO's best USMC shooting scores according from the seated position. The stacked book boxes provided such a position, nicely braced. To lean out the window to get the "easier" shot would have been both awkward and highly exposed. For some one of his ability, the shots he took were easy. CA's have long exagerated the difficulty of the marksmanship involved.

more yet to come...

7) Dealy Plaza, like most urban centers, is an echo chamber (an episode of Monk: The Defective Detective showed this quite clearly). So, the farther away from the shot source, and the more off the line of fire, the more likely people would be confused to the number of shots fired. The three ear witnesses below the nest--no confusion. Three shots. Those in the presidential convertible-three shots. Back to the Zapruder film and computer reconstruction. The first shot (pre-loaded) complete miss. That's the one Governor Connally looks around for--and JFK seems to react also. A second and a half later the car was clear of the oak tree and the second shot drills through JFK's neck and nails Connally in the back, exits his chest, and lodges in his right forearm. It takes about a half second for JFK's and the Connally's physiological reactions to being shot to show. The reconstruction shows the pretty strait alignment of neck, back-chest, and forearm from a downward diagonal angle--the sixth story sniper nest is the ONLY option--and that alignment occurs a half-second before the shot-reactions occur. QED. A second later, the kill shot. LHO realizes he's done it (looking through his telescopic scope, the result would have been unmistakable), and bugs out while the presidential convertible peels off.

If LHO was behind the "killshot" from the warehouse located to the rear of the limo, why did JFK get pushed back and to the left, back and to the left, back and to the left, back and to the left?
 Physiological reactions to being shot do not necessarily correlate with the direction of the shooting. Now, JFK's neck shot was either exclusivly or primarily a soft tissue hit (some neck bone might have been clipped, but it wasn't a full on bone hit) A 130 grain boat-tail military style bullet, traveling at aprox 3000 feet-per-second is going to zip through soft tissue imparting almost NO inertial energy (and those are small to begin with---if a bullet can "knock some one over" why doesn't the recoil do the same to the shooter, however braced?--Newton's Third Law of Motion in effect here). JFK's reactions were utterly due to the shock of tissue damage-nervous impulse--and those are by nature, unpredicatble. Also, his back-brace prevented JFK from slumping foward. The kill shot--a massive trauma to the CNS (brain)---Most of the momentem energy was expended it the disruption of the bullet and the skull fragmentation and in producing cranial hydrostatic shock---but the trauma would have produced an incredible firing of the CNS nerons, producing the body's spasms in whatever direction--again modified by the presence of the back brace

I'm currently reading the book Crossfire (I forget the author), which is very, very good and informative...and in no way could JFK been shot by one guy in a out-of-place wearhouse.
Uh, Why not? The Book Depository is definetly, most NOT "out of the way" From the sixth-story sniper nest, the shooting angle is near zero. Crossfire presents the typical ballistic baloney I answered earlier. And if any CA presents that misinformation on ballistics and marskmanship why do you think the rest of their "evidence" and conclusions are any more accurate?
