Jesus' commandments - opposed to His Fathers Commandments? - Really?

Are Jesus' Commandments opposed to God's Ten Commandments?

  • No Jesus taught in perfect harmony with the Father and the Ten Commandments

  • Jesus came to delete/oppose God's Ten Commandments

  • Jesus taught us to edit the Ten Commandments replacing some but not others

  • Jesus' commandments are based on Love - God's Commandments are not and are ended

  • I don't know - I have not given this much thought so far.

Did God do away with the fact he wants you to love him with all your heart?
Did God do away with the fact he doesn't want you to lie, murder, commit adultery and covet?
God removed the penalty of transgression, he did NOT remove the law itself he desires you to keep.
That got transferred into your mind and on your heart
Without the attached penalty for transgression, the TC are no longer the ministry of death and condemnation

How could any thinking Christian ignore those forthright verses? Paul sure didn't beat around the bush in telling us we are not subject to the 10 commandments with its ritual Sabbath rule. The doubters tell us "Did God do away with the fact he doesn't want you to lie, murder, commit adultery and covet?" LOVE that is how we do not do many more things than are listed in the 10. Not to belittle the 10 commandments, but do you, who teach to 10 are our guide, realize that there was no command in the 10 to love our fellow man. The greatest command in all of mankind is not one of the 10. Those who thump that we are under the 10 are surely doing so without thinking. The book of the law which contained the great commands to love God and our fellow man, is said by some, is all that was nailed to the Cross.

SDAs and Messianics have to teach the 10 are binding and ignore the writings of Paul. Their teaching of the ritual laws given only to Israel tumble down if they uphold scripture.

If one lives their lives by the 10 commandments He/she would not be subject for being proud, envious, boastful, fraudulent, having anger, hypocrisy, indecency, folly, committing incest just to name a few. The law of love encompasses all things moral. That is why John in 1Jn wrote that Christians are doing right when we abide by the following: 23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 24 The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

The plan of salvation is so simple, but some make it so difficult that they turn people away and they never come back. What a shame.

Tell it to Paul stuart. All you have accomplished is that Paul was a liar and cannot be trusted to write that the 10 commandments were temporary and Christians now have the power of the Holy Spirit as our guide not some incomplete 10 rules that didn't cover but very little how we are to treat our fellow man. Think brother.

Christ is the end of the law UNTO RIGHTEOUSNESS( not full stop)
Rom 10:4

You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but the spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone( TC) but on tablets of human hearts
2cor3:3

The law of righteousness got removed. The law of condemnation was abolished, the law without condemnation is written on your mind and placed on your heart

Jesus agrees with Paul:

Do not think I have come to abolish the law or the prophets, I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen will by any means disappear from the law till all is accomplished
Matt5:17&18

This is the covenant I will make with them after that Time says the Lord
I will write my laws in their minds
And place them in their hearts ( you have the law)
Then he adds
Their sins and lawless deeds I will remember no more( no condemnation)

Yes, bring to an end the temporary laws that governed one small country that is now defunct. In all of history God did not dictate the laws He gave only to Israel to any other nation or people. Why should He start now?

I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen will by any means disappear from the law till all is accomplished
Matt5:17&18

Do you realize what you just wrote when you quoted Matt 5? You confuse me a bit stuart, do you believe not all was accomplished at the Cross and we are not now under the new covenant of grace and are under the dictates of the law given only to Israel?

For those who do believe not all was accomplished at the Cross I suggest you start wearing four tassels on your garments made from only one material. Oh and make sure the rebuilding of the Temple to honor God the way the law told Israel to do.

Christ is the end of the law unto righteousness( not full stop)
Maybe I am dense, but I really don't know what you mean by "not full stop".

Also, are you in agreement with my previous post or not?

You don't strive to follow the law within you to obey. You follow after the Holy Spirit, then the fruits of the Spirit are manifest I your life. This us the way to be in line with the law within you. For against the fruits of the Spirit there I no law( gal5:23)
The fruits of the Spirit are the embodiment of how God wants you to live
SDA mistake us to follow after the letter.
So why us the law within you?
What is in your heart you in your heart want to obey. But your flesh does not. That kaw will not trouble your conscience, unless you commit wilfull sin by following after the flesh.
If you commit adultery will you be conscious you sinned by committing adultery, or simply by not living as you should?

Through the law we become conscious of sin rom3:20

If you steal would you be convicted you sinned by stealing?

Through the law we become conscious of sin, etc

I believe the heart of the law remains.
IE
Paul twice in rom ch14 tells us all food is clean.

But God cannot, nor will he remove the fact he does not want you to commit adultery, covet, take his name In vain, steal, murder etc

All part of loving God and our fellow man and administered by the Holy Spirit. If the law remains then Jesus didn't accomplish all he came to do.

If you committed adultery, would you simply be conscious you had not loved as you should?
Or, would you be convicted you sinned by committing the act of adultery?

If you stole something. Would you be conscious you sinned by committing theft, or would you be conscious you committed sin by failing to love as you should?

Hello Stuart.

Gentiles are under the commandment to not commit sexual immorality.

1 Thessalonians 4:3
For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality.

The commandment against adultery is the law, I am not under the law.

Galatians 5:18
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.

If I avoided paying tax to some degree, I would be conscious that I had committed theft, yes.
Living a life of love fulfills the law and much more, so I pay no attention to the law.

Use spiritual discernment
Would you consider sorcery legalistic law?
Hello Stuart.

Yes, most definitely.

Deuteronomy 18:10
There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer.

The ten commandment folk fail to notice this commandment against the act of sorcery below.

Galatians 5:20
idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions.

The commandment against sorcery is a moral commandment, yet it is not one of the ten commandments.

Did I write that only the law on stone was placed on the heart?
If I did, please show me the post, and i will apologise
You say sorcery is a moral law, most know divide the law between legalistic and Moral law.
So when I asked you I sorcery was legalistic law and you said yes, I was surprised to see you then call it moral law. Possibly we view the two differently
Having read your post again, I would not say moral law is limited to the TC

I agree, as long as you follow after the Spirit you pay no attention to the law.
But as a Baptist minister once said:
If we always, without fault followed after the Holy Spirit we would never commit sin, the reality of which escapes us all

Exactly but God did remove the laws he no longer wants us to keep. The law of the old Covenant is very different from the law of the new covenant. The new does not command things like Saturday resting or animal sacrifices.

The law of righteousness got removed.

The law of righteousness is the law of Moses.

Gill

Romans 9:31
But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness,.... The Israelites, the far greater part of the Jews, who were not called by the grace of God, were all very zealous of the law, called "the law of righteousness"; because the matter of it was righteous, it was so in its own nature; and because perfect obedience to it is righteousness; as also because they sought for righteousness by the deeds of it.
