  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

it seems like creationists arn't looking 4 the truth

Wrong god in your literature.

No, it just means the people who believed in that God were smarter than the ones who believed in yours.

Wrong dating in your literature.

Proof?

Let me reiterate --- make a better x-ray machine if you have to --- make the crops grow better if you have to --- but don't contradict Scripture doing it.

Who cares about Scripture? Since when is the Bible a medical text?

if such narrow interpretations of Scripture remained the medical standard, we wouldn't have any Xray machines in the first place, or decent crops. Whenever disease broke out, we'd still be applying leeches and looking for a witch to stone for it.

I'm pretty sure a case could be made that X-rays are non-biblical... all that seeing of others nakedness, and invisible rays that arent mentioned in the Bible... sounds practically dripping with satanic gribbliness to me

Video games and Jurassic Park, AV...video games and Jurassic Park.

No AV, as usual, it makes no sense at all.
Because a six foot Wookie isn't going to live on Endor with a bunch of Ewoks! Far out, how much more simple could it be?

Who cares about Scripture?

That about sums it up --- doesn't it?

Wow --- unbelievable --- but considering your first statement, I can understand.

Now THIS remark I don't understand. Not even from someone who does have your attitude, Nathan. You can't even respect It enough to know that wouldn't be sanctioned in the Scriptures. (I have a feeling you do though, you're just trying to get under our skin.)

Pretty much -- why use Scripture on a topic is was not intended to be used on, has no wisdom to speak of on, and indeed, has nothing on point to discuss on?

Wow --- unbelievable --- but considering your first statement, I can understand.

Well, the facts are often unbelieveable.

Nope -- the actions I mentioned were put into practice by people who held Scripture in the same level of idolatry as you do. What makes you any different from them?

And with that --- I bid this thread 'adieu'.

I still don't understand how people will take a narrow interpretation of the Bible as proof against reality. I suppose I never will really.

Actually the Bible's view of reality is much wider than scientists'.

Scientists ignore and/or deny 99.999...% of reality because science is myopic, and they won't believe until they can taste, see, feel, hear, or smell it.

When you consider how small the earth is compared to the universe, hopefully you get the picture of what I'm saying.

Factoring God, angels, and miracles out of their equations guarantees their version of reality will be smaller than a quark in the ocean.

The same argument could be made about Alice in Wonderland's view of reality.

Scientists ignore and/or deny 99.999...% of reality because science is myopic, and they won't believe until they can taste, see, feel, hear, or smell it.

Reality and you are strangers.

When you consider how small the earth is compared to the universe, hopefully you get the picture of what I'm saying.

Yes, you lick your own ego by imagining that your emotions of religious awe are somehow indicative of something. The only truth there is that buffing your ego makes you feel an order of magnitude better than reality does.

Have you ever noticed that the fiction section in the bookshop is bigger than the science section?

And you won't find the Bible being sold in the fiction section, will you?

That's because the Bible isn't fiction.

And you won't find It being sold in the science section either, will you?

That's because It shows a reality above that which science can see.

Well, it's in the religion and spirituality section, so it's not a million miles away.

That's because the Bible isn't fiction.
Not all of it, no.

And you won't find It being sold in the science section either, will you?
Granted.

That's because It shows a reality above that which science can see.
No, it describes a fiction that makes you feel incredibly good about yourself. The power of your feeling doesn't show anything above reality, but the fantasy that you have been admitted to a special, bigger realm from which all these other more educated, cleverer people have been excluded reveals quite a lot about what really makes you feel good.

I'm a sinner saved by grace.

My sins put Jesus on the Cross.

Ya ... I'm just doing a song and a dance right now.

Lol, well, you've gone sideways at the traffic lights here, but since you raise it, you don't get off on being a sinner saved by grace at all do you.

My sins put Jesus on the Cross.

Oh, you're so bad, you don't deserve to be saved, you're so wretched and debased and soiled before the almighty greatness of his marvellousness, you're just a horrible, miserable bit of dirt in the gutter, OH HOW could you EVER be worthy of his attention, oh *wail and whine and sniff ad nauseum*

No, no one has ever got off on that one before.

Ya ... I'm just doing a son:doh:g and a dance right now.

Seems like it.
