Israel said Thursday that it will bar two Democratic congresswomen from entering the country ahead of a planned visit over their support for a Palestinian-led boycott movement, a decision announced shortly after President Donald Trump tweeted that it would ‘‘show great weakness’’ to allow them in.

The move to bar Reps. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota from visiting the close American ally appeared to be unprecedented, and marked a deep foray by Israel into America’s bitterly polarized politics. It is also a sharp escalation of Israel’s campaign against the international boycott movement.

Interior Minister Aryeh Deri issued a statement saying that after consultations with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior Israeli officials he decided not to allow Tlaib and Omar to enter because of ‘‘their boycott activities against Israel.’’

Actually, Israel was waffling back and forth. They did have a hard call, but in the end stuck by their country's laws and said no. I realize it was their ambassador that said "YES" to the visit, but in the end they made the right call.

These two women are representatives of our country, and yet they were not going to have any issue breaking the laws of Israel if they did visit. It was a call mixed in politics and common sense. They would have been seen as weak if they didn't stick to their guns - as the saying goes.

I'm sure it helped when Trump basically reminded them of it. Although he could have done that with a phone call, and not a tweet. It wasn't as if Trump was the only one reminding Israel about the law, and the common sense principal of it. Yet, most people will only think it was Trump that pointed it out. lol Yet, it hardly was!

Bill Maher said it well on his show. People are pretending it is something it is not.

Given that even the FOXNEWS polls indicate that Trump will be voted out of office in 15 months, one has to question as to what the political calculations were that went into Israel's decision to punish those congressional opponents on this President's personal "enemies list!"

Polls at this point are helpful but definitive not so much. With 20+ candidates vs 1 right now it is not surprising we see national polls the way they are.

For a sitting President the daily job approval rating is important. Rasmussen Reports is the only daily tracking poll. It does show a dip to 45% approval rating. But they compare Obama in 2011 to the poll as well. Both Trump and Obama are tied. Needless to say President Obama won in 2012 and his numbers rose when he was head to head with Romney.

Also Zogby just came out with a poll showing a 51% approval rating for Trump. Not to mention nearly half Hispanics now approve of the President’s job performance. Jonathan Zogby is hardly a conservative.

What both parties at this point with over a year to go to election 2020 is to shore up their base and start looking state by state for the ground game. Team Trump has the advantage there being the incumbent party. Everyone learned from Team Obama when his campaign kept their HQs open in all competitive states while he served his first term. I think that was the difference maker for him in 2012. His team is to be commended for that.

Another thing to examine at this point is money. The RNC raised double the DNC and has more cash on hand. So does team Trump which is to be expected as the sitting President.

When the Democrats thin the number of candidates you will see a surge in their funding.
