• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
 • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

"give me that old time religion, give that old time relgion, give me that, it's good enough for me"

haha, really, I think it is a good thing for Evangelicals to stick to there roots, it seems more real, more concrete, when they get all "post modern" it seems to fake, no offense to anyone who enjoys that style of church, I am not calling you fake.
really I think all Christianity should look at itself as more "counter-culture"
I think the Eastern Orthodox do a great job of that

I guess I am not really unerstanding what is it you are asking? LOL

I guess you're just not relevant Mama Z! ;)

What I'm asking is kind of spinning a bit into a topic on sin, law, grace and love. The original question has to do with relevance among evangelicals today. Is it good to be 'hip' & 'trendy.' Is it helping?

While I do believe being; loving, nice, caring etc draw attention to the loving power and mercy of God in this manner doesn't hurt...It's not preached as the gospel message, rather the command to all believers in the fold ...

Are you kidding? Dude. John 3:16 -- "For God so loved the world that he gave . . ." The gospel, the more excellent way, the clarion call is one of love. Love God and love people. Not sin, sin, sin.

Happy you do...
How is that you preach sin?

Almost without fail, I call out to those who are struggling with sin, addictions, habits, failures in some way or another. I apply it to everyday, down to earth stuff. I don't beat them over the head with it or give them a hundred different scriptures on the heat of hell to make them feel like a spider dangling above a roaring fire. Last week we talked about the Nazirite vow and how long it's been since we've been passionate about God. That maybe something in our life owns us: a bad marriage, porn, gossip, etc; and it's going to take having a serious conversation with God and perhaps making a vow -- how bad do we want to be free? I preach on sin. Don't you worry your little zealous head. ;)

if you make the Church look like the World, why would anybody be interested in it? They already have the World, people are hungry for something else
no one talks about sin anymore, nothing is looked at as a sin, everything is just a choice, "violence is the only sin for the modern man" I forget who said it but they were right, and even then, there are sooooo many times we justify violence with dumbest and most selfish of things
trends come and go, if we try to look trendy we will only end up looking dumb, kids hate nothing more then the last trend lol it is always about what is new, by the time a "trend" would catch on in the Church it will already be passe
how do you stay on top of trends? be the trend setter

Well we are as Seen and taught by the Apostles that sin is to be confronted and dealt with. Truth is to be applied to where sin is taking ahold.. What does one believe love to be?

I believe Romans 2 addresses this...right? isn't it written on our hearts..All peoples hearts?
Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

True. Very true. The law is written on their hearts. However, the issue at hand is how to bring that law out. How do we engage people in spiritual conversations that allows the Spirit of God to reveal what their heart knows? Do I go in quoting vs. about sin and depravity? Do I show them illustrations from their life? I choose the latter. I think that's a good way of describing the relevance of someone's message. It's not that I never quote scripture. There is a place for that. It just usually doesn't start with that.

I still have my garment of sackcloth hanging in the closet :D

Joel 1:13 Gird yourselves and lament ye priests, howl ye ministers of the altar, come lie all night in sackcloth ye ministers of my Elohim, for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your Elohim.

Reve 11:3 and I shall be giving the two witnesses of Me, and they shall be prophesying days, thousand, two hundred, sixty, having been about-cast sackcloths/ sakkouV <4526>

Man shall LIVE by EVERY WORD of God. Hard place to find.

Ah, indeed.

Don't the Jews do that also :)

They too will LIVE by EVERY WORD of God. Hard place to find lloj.

They should as JESUS came to them first

John 7:1 And was walking, the Jesus, after these in the Galilee for not He willed in the Judea to be walking, that the Judeans sought Him to kill. [Isaiah 9:1/Matt 4:14]

The Jews will have much to answer for.

Is it possible to counter culture yourself right out of an audience? I think it is. I think this is what we're seeing with traditional southern baptist churches. The ones still thriving are the ones who've adapted to the culture . . . not the ones still singing three hymns.
