  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Mat 24:34 Amen I am saying to ye not no may be passing away the generation/genea <1074>, this until ALL these may be becoming/genhtai <1096> (5638).

I believe we're living in the days when entire generations don't know the word of God or the mighty things he has done. The story needs to be retold . . . in a fresh way.

In my city a few years ago there was a liberal church with a strong outreach program for teens. They actually held 'raves' and were attracting big crowds of kids with Christian Punk ( of all things ) and it was all going pretty good til some kid OD'd on ecstasy at one of their events. A little "ironic public press" shut them down in a hurry.

Flirt with the world, get the worlds results.

I'd love to hold services in a night club in east l.a. The kingdom is not some safe place for people in suits, nice cars and hairdos. The kingdom suffers violence -- all kinds of odd people are willing to grab onto to and enter it -- but we've got to get it to them. Problem is we're waiting for them to come to us. I beleive I'd of continued to press the issue if it had been me.

Fresh way?

Yeh. Something fresh. Something new. When Jesus showed up on the scene he was fresh. Had new interpretations of old laws. Gave the people a new message and he told stories, cursed fig trees . . . he was like a human prop waiting to happen. That's fresh. Not just some guy standing up there in a suit and tie talking about 4 vs of scripture.

Where do you think liturgical songs came from. They are a ripoff from the culture of their day. Hymns were new once upon a time.

Christian plainchant is derived from the worship found in the Jewish synagogues. It is quite a bit different from the secular music being played in their own day. If you read the early fathers you will find that they did not believe that certain types of music should be used in worship. They recognized that the type of music you use says a lot about what you believe about God. New songs can be written and can differ depending upon the culture but there should be some continuity. I've heard wonderful hymns written by Jamaicans and people in South Africa that you can tell were written by people from those places but that you can also tell share a continuity with the music of the church in a way that the secular music that you find in their culture do not. The same cannot be said for Fanny Crosby style hymns or modern praise songs.

If you look at some of the "emerging churches" and their practices you will find that they often borrow from the ancient church. Kids growing up in evangelicalism are looking to recovery the mystery in Christianity. When people are incorporated into the body of Christ, the body of Christ is not some new thing that was discovered in the last 10 years. We are incorporated in communion with St. Paul, Augustine, John Chrysostom, and so forth. The baby boomers really screwed things up and led us to believe that every generation needs a new church and that it is normal for 20 year olds to go to a different church from 80 year olds. We are all part of the same body and need to learn from one another.

The Divine liturgy is also all about Jesus in a way that most contemporary songs are not. It is all focused on what Jesus did for us, not what we are doing for him.

I'm saying that's what Jesus did, not what we do. We may find a new way of looking at it or revealing something deeper, but not new.

Personally, I think it's easier for people to stand on the sidelines of how we've always done it and hurl insults at anyone who tries something new. Do we really understand that the way you are doing things now was once new?

I wonder if this greek word is where we get the english word "dis" from.
Ya here this a lot as a slang word when someone is accused of "dissing" someone and it seems as if Christians "diss" each other more than they do others. :)

Romans 15:3 "For even the Christ not to Himself pleases but according as it has been written 'the reproaches/oneidismoi <3680> of those reproaching thee fall on Me'": [Psalm 69:9]

Romans 15:3 kai gar o cristoV ouc eautw hresen alla kaqwV gegraptai oi oneidismoi twn oneidizontwn se epepeson ep eme

3680. oneidismos on-i-dis-mos' from 3679; contumely:--reproach.
3679. oneidizo on-i-did'-zo from 3681; to defame, i.e. rail at, chide, taunt:--cast in teeth, (suffer) reproach, revile, upbraid.
3681. oneidos on'-i-dos probably akin to the base of 3686; notoriety, i.e. a taunt (disgrace):--reproach.

Interesting. I did a study this past wed. on anger and found similar terminology in Matt. 6:21-22.
