Hmm... Holland, Michigan is about 100 miles from Chicago across the lake. So 20 times 8" would be 160 inches or about 13 feet. I'm pretty sure that there are several buildings in Chicago higher that.

It's about 23 miles. So anything higher than 3 feet would be visible from there.

The middle of the record, which is smaller in diameter, would spin faster than the larger outside diameter. The North pole would be the smaller inside part of the record which is closest to the axis, and the equator would be the rim of the record.

Or do I have that backwards? I keep thinking about pulleys. If you drive a larger pulley with a smaller pulley, the smaller pulley will spin at a greater RPM than the larger pulley. The north pole is smaller than the equator.

I think you're right. It would take longer for the larger outside edge to make one revolution, so it would need to spin faster.

No, no. I refer to the wisdom that permits us to calculate the variability of speed of spinning objects. That was not my discovery - probably a long dead Persian or Indian or Greek. But it demonstrates what "mans wisdom" has been able to achieve for us.

I doubt your sincerity. IM sorry I said anything. I'm a bit dyslexic at times. I even spell things backwards. Its a result of many years of depression I think. My mind isn't what it once was.

The scripture I referred to actually describes the foolishness of mans self righteousness. It teaches us not to glorify men, but to glorify only God alone. Its no shame to be fallible, and the mistake is in being self righteous.
