Another example of an apparent double standard.

Romans 12:19 NIV
Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath,
for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How could God's "wrath" be revenge, if revenge is a sin?
Let's see. I'm surmising that:
1) Paul was practicing bad exegesis and also erroneously quoted Moses to back up his erroneous point? :dontcare:
OR 2) God knew that someday there'd be an organization called the United Nations, and He wanted to throw a wrench into their praxis thousands of years beforehand. 'Cuz, God is smart like that?
Those are just a couple of my initial guesses. I'd be surprised if there's not tons and tons of biblical scholars who will agree with me on this.
Let's go find out...!!
Simply because We are GODS Creation,
We're Made in his Image,
It's because we're all HIS and were created in his image that he alone reserves the right to take revenge?
the fact that we're created in his IMAGE, is why we're to love our neighbors as ourselves?
in the end the Second Greatest Commandment yields to the first as it, ‘Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is one Lord; 30 and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.”
May the LORD Bless you and keep you
Love your enemies; they hate it!
I have been applying this on a new job that I have.
I have been ignoring the nastiness of a couple guys and have felt tremendous victory in these situations.
I find something I like about them and rub it in. - LOL
I actually felt a bit guilty, but I know I'm doing the right thing, so...
Steve, if you feel any guilt, it may be coming from the wrong place i.e. you could be enjoying that instant "revenge" rather than giving it over to God. Anyway, I'll say a prayer for you in your new work situation.
Thanks, @David's Harp
I didn't feel guilty in a sin conviction sense, but rather the joy I had in the situation, apparently at their expense. Everything I said and did was genuine, which made it all the more effective. They wanted war, I gave them peace. Their frustration was obvious at times. Thanks for your prayers though.
So, God can do whatever he wants because he answers to no one?
Can we trust a god like like that? Is a tyrant worthy of worship?
A fellow forum member in his blog states we can't show the world Christ if we're still reflecting the world. That's what it means to be in the world, but not "of the world". (Something to think about).
If you were the creator and made your creation to have a specific function and it malfunctioned, what would you do? Throw it away or fix it?
Is it revenge, or is it punishment for evil - the consequences of sin?
I always look at revenge as, getting your own back.
A partner leaves you, and you cut up their suits/burn their dresses. They kick you out of the house, and you put prawns into the hems of the curtains.
Someone runs over your child and you stalk, and injure, them.
The wages of sin is death.
If we sin against God, have a chance to receive forgiveness but deliberately reject it - surely we would then suffer the consequences of that?
In the Old Testament, revenge was allowed, this is why the avenger of blood was written into the law.
Until someone is born again by the Holy Spirit, there's no relief from the need to take revenge.
God goes about it in a way that isn't selfish and appoints a time for all of the judgments at once, so it ends up not being a sin. However, humans are selfish by nature, so taking revenge ends up being a sin regardless of pretenses and situational foreplay.
If that means making ourselves irrelevant or a misfit, why would anyone be attracted to that? Do you think the Amish got it right? They are certainly in the world but not of it.
Fix it makes most sense. But the Flood account claims that God threw it away. So... where does that leave us?
It leaves us where we're at. Right Here!
And we can decide what we're going "to do" with the Bible because, technically, no one is holding it to our heads.
I mean, Steven. Look. If you want to jettison it, no one's going to stop you from walking over to the waste basket and letting an inch and a half thickness of paper hit the bottom of the basket with a "thud."
We're not put here to please anyone,
We're put here to make a ripple,
to be a standard on the battlefield,
to stand tall in the darkness,
to be hope to those who live in hopelessness,
to walk as the LORD, in Obedience to the Heavenly Father.
The First Disciples are Perfect examples of how Children of God live,
Persecuted and martyred.
they bore their crosses daily,
Denied themselves and even gave up all they had,
families, friends and livelihood.
"Is your church growing or dying?"
"Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."
