Because Belafonte is a private citizen. Why do you think there needs to be some ringing support or admonishment from the black community when ever some black private citizen makes a comment????Scribbler said:Why is there no outcry when Harry Belafonte or somesuch calls Powell/Rice a 'house negro or Tom? No backlash from the black community? No rallying around our brother like I saw in the wake of Jesse's love-child scandal? I though 'Silence=Consent" was one of the liberals motto?
And Jackson/Sharpton aren't considered leaders? That's news to me. Every time an incident involving race comes up, Jesse or Al is on the first plane there, condemning America, Republicans, some other 'evil', as though theirs is the voice of black America. Democrats speak before their congregations and their organizations.
As for whether or not Jesse & Al are on the public payroll, what does that have to do with anything?
And no there are today NO BLACK leaders what so ever. Why Jesse and Al do what they do is because they feel it's their calling, not because they have been given the helm or approved by the masses some kind of leadership role representing a segment of society. They do not speak for me. I speak for myself. My state representative speaks for me. My lawyer speaks for me. Jesse and Al do NOT speak for the black community. You are again over generalizing.
