  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

perhaps because your god's word has consistently failed to have positive effects upon human health over roughly 2000 years, while science and rational inquiry has dramatically increased the average human lifespan and eliminated diseases in the last 100 alone?

God's word has not failed man, man has failed God's word. I am man, and I know I have failed. But I will say that God's word is living, and will never die!

Personally, I used to have chronic pain, neurological symptoms, burning, leg weakness, etc. I went to all kinds of doctors, neuro, ortho, chiro, etc. I only got worse. By applying and doing God's word,my pain and all symptoms went away. I finally got hope and eventually, got healing.Western medicine tends to not see the spiritual aspect of our health. Not saying people shouldn't a doctor or anything, but coming from the medical field, it's becoming more of a business and not an institution for healing. So, my faith is no longer in man. I also don't go to church anymore to please my parents, or pastor, but that I may serve a living God.

How many can honestly say they seek the Lord with all their heart and that they trust Him with all things? Even Christians Christians battle this. I didn't realize when joining christianforums that atheists posted. Why post on a board where you know people are going to post about God and His word? Just curious.

Lots of studies prove that folks with faith live longer, more fulfilling lives.

first off, cite. secondly, psychological studies are notoriously difficult to either perform or interpret. thirdly, "faith" is such an incredibly nebulous idea that I really can't see any relevance to the discussion at hand.

Yes, being a Christian is better for your health than exercise. Stress is a killer. Many studies prove it. Believing we are here alone with no one to count on but flawed humans and the failing systems they create, it creates a great deal of stress and therefore disease.
When we trust God, however, and realize we are not alone, and that we are eternally secure and taken care of now and forever, stress is relieved. Every part of the body benefits from this.

It relates because of this post. that's the post I was responding to. For God's word to have a postive effect on one's health, one must believe it and follow it. Hope that helps.

Stress is nowhere NEAR as bad as a sedentary lifestyle (also, "being Christian" does not equal "being stress-free). You can think God thinks you're special all you want, but if you sit on your butt eating poorly all day you're going to get diabetes, atherosclerosis, and you'll become obese. All the positive thinking the world won't raise your HDL or sensitize your insulin receptors.

I agree. Bad health choices are bad choices. I would NEVER defend them. However, that does not mean that good heath choices can completely make up for the stress a lack of faith causes on the bodies of Christians who have not yet learned to trust God, and unbelievers who do not trust Him.

Hope that helps!

When I was a Christian, I had more stress than I do now. Since rejecting Christianity, I have had considerably less stress. I am a lot happier with who I am as a person now. It's been great for my health, honestly. All of the atheists and agnostics I know breathed huge sighs of relief when they left religion, and are generally much happier people as a result.

There's 2 things modern America is notorious for:

1) Obesity

2) Christianity

Funny, eh? ;)

Seriously, though, care to provide links to these studies "proving" that being a Christian is better for your health?

Well, here's a few to get you started. My books are in the room I don't heat and have not unpacked yet. I could probably find more in their bibs. However, I have a great deal of faith that the oil companies will religiously continue to gouge us from now until Jesus comes, so I need to wait for a warm day before I open up the room. If you'd like me to copy the bibs for you, just let me know. and yes, I forgive the gougers. I don't agree with them, but they know not what they do.

P.S. I'm going to open a new thread for this topic, as we have hijacked someone elses topic, okay? So if you'd like to continue this chat, please contact me there, or feel free to pm when I get my pm box cleaned out. It's sort of like that unheated room!

Enjoy the reading and have a super day!

Again, we agree! I'm a Christian now, and I too breathed a huge sigh of relief when I got out of religion and into a relationship with Jesus. There is absolutely a crushing weight to religion. Jesus was the first to point that out. Sounds like we're on the same page more than anyone would have thought! Cool.

But again, can we move to the new link for any further discussion. I feel bad :sorry:about hijacking this link. Thanks, A
