  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Mary cannot read the hearts of men..You take this scripture and twist it around Mary..Go to the death of Christ and read what happens there.. Read the thoughts of many after His death.. Mary's heart was pierced.. Her beloved Son hanging on a cross dying for the sins of Man Kind..Even for her own.. That would be enough to peirce any mothers heart.
This is why Christians are told to rightly divide the word of truth so these errors do not happen.

Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Luke 2:35 "...and you yourself a sword will pierce so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed."

John 2:5 "His mother said to the servers, "Do whatever he tells you."

Mary sees a need and appeals to Her Son to satisfy it. He does. We turn to Mary to ask her to intercede with her Son in our daily spiritual and material needs, but especially at the hour of our death. At that moment our salvation hangs in the balance as the devil makes his final foray to deter us from the path to God (Rev. 2:10). It is not surprising, therefore, that both the Hail Mary and the Our Father conclude with an appeal to be delivered from the evil one.

Luke 2:35 — "Your own soul a sword shall pierce, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed."
This passage is spoken by the old man Simeon on the occasion of Mary bringing Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem to offer Him to God according to the custom of the Mosaic Law. In it Simeon prophesies that Mary will share in the salvific sufferings of Her Son.

I hope you don't mind answering a redundant question:

You use a Catholic Bible, don't you? I'm only asking because you have books that the Protestant Bibles don't. Therefore in order for me to really know what the frilly heck you're talking about as far as doctrine, I need to refer to both. Am I right? If and when I get one, then we'll talk. But just let know if I'm warm. Because if you have books I've never read, you might have info I've never heard. Let me know if I'm right or not.

How do we rightly divide?
WHo teahces us truth?
Ourselves?
You rightly divide by the scripture.. Go to where Christ died and see the thoughts of many.. Read about it. See how the thoughts of many were revealed.

I think part of the problem is the Bible version Catholics use.

Not really.

You can compare different Bible version and verses here

http://www.biblegateway.com

NIV

34Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: "This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, 35so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too."

Nasb

34And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary (A)His mother, "Behold, this Child is appointed for (B)the fall and rise of many in Israel, and for a sign to be opposed-- 35and a sword will pierce even your own soul--to the end that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed."

The messege

33-35Jesus' father and mother were speechless with surprise at these words. Simeon went on to bless them, and said to Mary his mother,

This child marks both the failure and
the recovery of many in Israel,
A figure misunderstood and contradicted—
the pain of a sword-thrust through you—
But the rejection will force honesty,
as God reveals who they really are.

Amplified

34And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, Behold, this Child is appointed and destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is spoken against--(A) 35And a sword will pierce through your own soul also--that the secret thoughts and purposes of many hearts may be brought out and disclosed.

NLT

34 Then Simeon blessed them, and he said to Mary, the baby’s mother, “This child is destined to cause many in Israel to fall, but he will be a joy to many others. He has been sent as a sign from God, but many will oppose him. 35 As a result, the deepest thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your very soul.”

KJV

34And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;
35(Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

ESV

34And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, "Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed 35(and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed."

NKJV

34 Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against 35 (yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

Mary is not a source of holiness.. She herself walked a humble and Holy life before her God and her King..She is not a distributor of Grace.

All ready been addressed

...and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary (Luke 1: 35)

There is only one source of holiness and that is God. It is up to individuals whether to share His Holyness that He has given us or not.

If we so decide to share His holyness then we become a source of His holyness.

Mary said yes to the angel and gave birth to God incarnate. In sharing His holyness by doing His Will she became a source of His holyness.

At least I didn't write that, whew. However, I do think that there are lessons to be learned from her like any moral person in the Bible.

She is not a source as The Source (God) but by sharing His holliness she became a source of His holiness. We belive this of all christians.

I guess a better way of sayint it would be that she became a channel of His holiness.

Wich is something that all christians are. We are all a channel of HIs holiness. We can decide to be a channel or not.
