But do you not believe: Sin is the transgression of the law?The letter of the law represents a knowledge of God's law that reveals sin *ROMANS 3:20. The letter of the law is not the Spirit of the law which is written on the heart to love.
But do you not believe: Sin is the transgression of the law?
You stated the letter of the law reveals sin. I agree with you. Do you believe the law is upheld by love?
If so, it must still be true that we sin/are sinners if we fail to obey what you correctly state reveals sin in us
When we are forgiven we are no longer under the condemnation of the law if we break it?Of course sin is the transgression of the law. This is the letter of the law. The purpose of God's LAW (10 commandments) is to give us the KNOWLEDGE of GOOD and EVIL; SIN and RIGHTOUESNESS *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; PSALMS 119:172 to lead us to Christ that we might be FORGIVEN by faith *GALATIANS 3:22-25. When we are FORGIVEN we are no longer under the condemnation of the law for breaking it *ROMANS 8:1-4 and free to follow him how calls us in LOVE to love another and to walk as he walked and to love him who first loved us. FAITH is the victory that overcomes the world in all those who have been born of God.
When we are forgiven we are no longer under the condemnation of the law if we break it?
I thought you previously stated we ware condemned by the law if we break it.
If we break the letter of the law, due to not perfectly loving as we should, we transgress the law you agree reveals sin. Therefore, we must be sinners if we do so
This is much better. Those who continue to live/live a lifestyle of wilfull sin are in trouble. I agreeThose who CONTINUE to KNOWINGLY BREAK God's LAW are still under the condemnation of it unless they seek Jesus in Confession and repentance they are not forgiven and are not following God's WORD.
BTWHello daydreamer40, thanks for your post.
Consider what you are replying to and the scriptures in them. Where does it say in the post you are responding to that it is talking about obeying the letter of the law perfectly to become perfect?
This idea makes no consideration for growing in Grace and in the Knowledge of God's truth. God's Word teaches that when we first become Christians we are babes and need to grow in the knowledge of God's WORD in order to follow it by faith *1 PETER 2:2' 1 CORINTHIANS 3:1-2; MATTHEW 11:25; 2 PETER 3:18. Others call this process Sanctification which is the work of a lifetime. Something you thought may not be sin today as you grow in the KNOWLEDGE of God's WORD may be sin for you tommorrow as it is revealed to you through God's WORD and conviction by his Spirit.
This is much better. Those who continue to live/live a lifestyle of wilfull sin are in trouble. I agree
However, it must be true, that if sin is the transgression of the letter of the law, unless we perfectly obey that law through loving others we commit sin, and are therefore sinners
I really do not see why there is any disagreement here between us. We both accept and believe sin is breaking the letter of the law. Therefore if you fail to perfectly love and therefore fail to perfectly obey the letter of the law, in that sense you must commit sin, and be a sinnerAlready addressed here. Please see post 1118 linked Growing in grace.
ACTS 17:30-31
[30], And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commands all men every where to repent:
[31], Because he has appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he has ordained; whereof he has given assurance to all men, in that he has raised him from the dead.
We are to grow in grace and the knowledge of him who calls us in LOVE to LOVE another.
BTW
I agree with the gyst of what you have written in the above. We are a work in progress aren't we. We have to grow. However, according to the definition of sin we both agree with, while we are growing, and are not perfectly obeying the law through love, we must be committing sin, so in that sense we are sinners. The only way you cannot commit sin is to perfectly obey the letter of the law through love
The law God wants us to follow is written on our minds and placed on our hearts by God himself. You cannot have a saviour from sin unless this has taken place. For God's laws are not arbitrary, no one gets an excuse to sin as much as they like until they at some later date understand what committing sin isThis is the difference and show God's grace and love to us and why it is written elsewhere.
JAMES 4:17 Therefore to him that knows to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.
And the difference between KNOWN SIN [what God has revealed to us as sin] and UNKNOWN SIN [that we might still be growing and not know something is sin until we get a KNOWLEDGE of it through God's WORD].
When God reveals to us a KNOWLEDGE of his truth through his WORD and we find something is our lives we did not know was sin, it is a blessing to us because God is calling us to have a closer walk with him and at this time calls us to repent and follow his WORD.

Absolutely, the law reveals the sin, therefore we must look to our Saviour and away from ourselves, for we are a work in progress, and whilst we are, we cannot(or do not) fully obey the letter of the law that reveals sin in usAbsolutley brother daydreamer40, I am happy God has revealed to you his WORD. Many do not agree with these scriptures however which is sad. The most beautiful thing is that it is only through God's LAW that any of us can find Jesus and see ourselves as sinners in order to find our Saviour. You cannot separate God's law from grace. The former leads to the latter.
God's LAW shows us that there is nothing that we can do to save ourselves and that we are all sinners that are condemned to death. It leads us to the foot of the cross were all we can do is say Lord save us we perish because we are without excuse.Absolutely, the law reveals the sin, therefore we must look to our Saviour and away from ourselves, for we are a work in progress, and whilst we are, we cannot fully obey the letter of the law that reveals sin in us
Well putGod's LAW shows us that there is nothing that we can do to save ourselves and that we are all sinners that are condemned to death. It leads us to the foot of the cross were all we can do is say Lord save us we perish.
It is only here that we can look up and see Jesus and what he did for us in dying in our place for our sins. Here nothing as an offering can we bring but by faith alone accept the free gift of God's dear son.
Then as we grow in the faith and the knowledge of God's WORD it is still not us but Christ in us working in us and changing us as we have faith in his WORD. The LAW is only a mirror for us to see Jesus and to remind us that there is nothing that we can do without Jesus to save ourselves. We will always be sinners in need of a Saviour. Praise God we have a Saviour.
Thanks brother daydreamer40, enjoyed sharing God's WORD together with you and so nice talking to you. I will have to catch up latter now as it is late my time. Feel free to post anything I will check latter nice talking to youWell put
That's not true. Only? "... only quoting God's WORD". ???
I was responding to your personal commentary. Here's the quote below. Is this ONLY "God's WORD"?
"Then again it is only those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD that have eternal life. Those who continue in known unrepentance sin do not know him or have they seen him..." - LGW
That's interesting. How do you define "unknown sin", and how would you know? Came out later?
Kind of like your run-on sentences. You seem to not realize it. (unknown grammatical sins)UNKNOWN SIN is sin you do not know about until God' gives you are knowledge of it as you continue in His Word *ACTS 17:30-31; JAMES 4:17. JOHN 8:31-36
How do you define the word "paraphrased"? Are you claiming that your posts are somehow "God's WORD"? (self-proclaimed prophet) Were you elected to replace Ellen?Yes Steve, these are God's WORD paraphrased with the scriptures you leave out. Here are the scripture in case your interested *JOHN 3:15-21; MATTHEW 7:21; JAMES 2:18-20; ROMANS 2:12-13; 1 JOHN 2:3-4; HEBREWS 10:26-27. There are more let me know if you would like them?
