Is it annoying when people bump old threads, even when they're just being encouraging

A few of you have noticed how busy I was last night. Some have simply commented on it, others have complained about it. So my question to you is this: Do you guys mind seeing old threads bumped even when people are just being encouraging?

If it REALLY adds something to the conversation, and the thread isn't VERY old then it doesnt bother me too much. For example no-one had posted on a thread for a matter of days, technically it's old, it'd would take a long time to find it flipping through pages, but it's still relevant and a comment added is no problem. Sometimes things are brought up that were started months ago and died out soon after and that IS quite irritating.

I like old threads being bumped, usually, because sometimes I'm gone for a while and it can be irritating to go back through all those pages to find the good threads I missed. However, I don't find it helpful if a whole bunch of threads are bumped at once.

I don't mind as long as it's not a hit and run post and as long as it's not an attempt to rehash arguements that have already cooled down.

I could see why it would get a little annoying if it was happening over and over by the same person with no intention to actually add anything to the conversations.

I thought it was funny. I was up early and logged on and there had to be a gazzilion post by you. LOL seriously It gave me a chance to look at threads I had never seen before. so cool

I see nothing wrong with it as long as the person is actually trying to add to the conversation. Sometimes I'll *bump* a thread of mine but only because I haven't really gotten an answer to my question or would like more info and it's slipped into page 2 or 3 in the forums.

I usually don't mind but the volume of bumped threads was a little ridiculous. I can see as many as five threads bumped, but I can't approve of 3 pages worth of old threads burying new ones that haven't died down yet. I'm not complaining, just suggesting a little self control to help keep current threads current.

I tend to prefer content over just bumping a thread, just because there's many other conversations going as well. YMMV.

But to answer the question, I prefer a comment rather than a mere "bump", unless it's just so important that everyone should see it - in which case a sticky might be considered.

And if it's my own thread being bumped up I'd be more encouraged with a nice reply than with a "bump".

I'm a bumper, myself. I usually try to add something rather than just doing a "Bump" post.

Like someone else said, as long as it's not bumping a thread that got really heated, then I'm alll for it. It's easy to lose a thread in a day on some of these forums and not be able to find them, so I'm always happy to see them bumped. I voted for the last one by the way lol.
