It's mostly pentecostals and catholics who need to fantasize in order to touch.

As someone else pointed out here, he didn't connect masturbation with lustful thoughts until his minister told him that's what happens... that's the way legalism works, it makes people sin more, not less.

Y'all need to get out from under the law and into grace.

Yes I believe so becasue to masterubate you need to fantasize to fantasize is to lust and to lust is to commit adultry

Need to fantasize? What about those young kids who first learn to touch by themselves in private. They realize that touching themselves down there is pleasurable and only do it because it feels good...most will eventually reach [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] too. They do not think about sex, mostly because they dont know what sex looks like or what it even is.

A lot of people mistake the sin of Onan for this issue:

Genesis 38:9 NIV
But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so whenever he lay with his brother's wife, he spilled his sperm on the ground to keep from producing offspring for his brother.

But its really nothing to do with it. Its about a man not wanting a woman to conceive- more like contraception.

Deuteronomy 23:10 NIV
If one of your men is unclean because of a nocturnal emission, he is to go outside the camp and stay there. 11 But as evening approaches he is to wash himself, and at sunset he may return to the camp.

Doesnt mention a woman here. Now someone who has a nocturnal emission has to go outside the camp wait a while and come back.

Remember who was crucified outside the camp?

If mastubation winds you up so strongly, no-one is forcing you to do it.

Galatians 6:4 NIV
Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else.

I would think that most adults have some sort of fantasy in their minds when they touch. If your mind is 100% pure, with no sexual thoughts, I can't see somebody masturbating. The thoughts of sexual pleasure prompts masturbation. Sexual pleasure for its own sake has to be sinful or at least an infirmity of the flesh if you want to call it that way. Now infirmities of the flesh are from Satan, and in some cases God will remove them but in many cases God will not. As an example Second Corinthians chapter 12 verses 7 to 10 talks about an infirmity from Satan that was sent to the Apostle Paul to keep him humble that God refused to remove:

"7And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. 8For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
9And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
10Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong."

Gosh that's a long thread.

I definitely hate it when people say that if it's not mentioned verbatim in Scripture then it's okay.

In Pauls letter to the Corinthians he says, "You are not your own, you were bought at price therefore honor God with your body". Ephesians 5:3 says, "But among you there must not even be a hint of sexual immorality or of any kind of impurity. And of course Jesus makes it pretty clear in Matthew 5:28, what he wants for us concerning sexual purity. Also what prompts one to touch? Some say sexual tension, others direct exposure to lustful instances. However, I think it's a bit deeper, God grants us his love, and loves us dearly. However, often we refuse this love and go searching in other supposed happinesses, such as drugs alcohol, sex and any other idol you can think of. But as Solomon reveals to us in the book of Ecclesiastes, these are meaningless, material possesions will pass away, and the loves of this life will never quench a man's soul. Only God can do that. Even our spouse can never complete us, only God can. He wants to have a relationship with us and when we indulge in such practices in which we exhibit no self control, where do we then put God on our priority list. Matthew 6 tells us of treasures in heaven,a and that we should build up treasure in heaven rather than in this life, we cannot serve two masters. We must obey God, remove such iniquities so that our relationship with Christ may heve barriers removed.

I would go as far as saying that anybody that says that masturbation is not a sin or that is good for the soul is most likely not saved. That person can't even recognize what sin means, so how can he / she even repent? It would be impossible to be saved if you don't know first what sin is.

Now with that said, there's a cure for this sin and it is Christ. Faith in Jesus and forgiveness of this sin is the cure. For there is no condemnation for those that are in Christ and walk after the spirit. This doesn't mean that because the sin of masturbation won't be imputed to born again christians that they should go and sin on purpose because willful sins will not be forgiven, but if they do as a result of an infirmity then they are forgiven if they confess the sin and repent. The forgiveness of sins is between God and the sinner.

Some will say that christians that touch are not truly saved. To that I will say that you can't generalize. For the flesh is weak and until the redemption of our bodies in the resurrection the sin still lives in our mortal bodies, the flesh wars against the spirit, and we have only experienced the firstfruits. Romans 8:23 says that we Christians are still waiting for the redemption of the body that will happen after death:

"And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body."

I'm just quoting this because there's no reason for anybody that is in Christ to feel guilty if they touch, because they have an advocate in Christ Jesus. And anybody that says that he / she has no sexual sin of any kind in his / her body without in this life is making Jesus a liar, as First John 9 and 10 warns Christians about claiming a perfect sinless life on earth. There is no heaven on earth and even Christians are not completely free from sin that continues to dwell in our mortal bodies:

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us."

Is masturbation a sin? yes...

Wow... I'm new to this forum, so I guess I'll jump right in. First you have to ask the question is masturbation sex? Of course it is. The same thing happens in masturbation that happens in sex. You have the images and the [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]. But who is it sex with? Yourself.

Masturbation is just one more substitute for God's intent for sex and human sexuality. Usually, if we have to ask, and if you can't feel close to God doing it, it's a sin. I doubt very seriously if you can be close to God (meaning constant fellowship with Him) and touch on a regular basis.

Masturbation is one of those inordinate affections that Paul talks about in Col 3:5. The penis was made for the vagina, not the hand or the fingers made for the penis and vagina. If you continually touch you're in disobedience. Let every man have his own wife and every woman have her own husband.

As far as I am concerned our sexual organs are there to give us pleasure, whether that be with a partner or ourselves. I don't really see where the heck God fits into it, unless he/she wants a piece of the action! :D

Does masturbation impair your relationship with God or does it draw you closer to him? The only way masturbation improves your relationship with God is if you recognize that it is a sin and you are in need of forgiveness which God will freely give you. Sometimes through sin we are convicted, I say that the only positive use that masturbation has is the realization of the masturbator that he is a sinner in need of Christ.

Does masturbation empower you to love your neighbour as yourself?
Well, let's look at it, masturbation does not empower us to love our neighbour better. It doesn't strengthen our minds or bodies to perform the work of the Lord, so masturbation can not be positive. And taking it a step further, if you ought to love your neighbour as yourself then those that touch (lovers of themselves) would have to touch their neighbours which obviously is not what God wants us to do.

As I have just explained masturbation impairs the life of the unconverted sinner and of the justified believer. It's from the devil, it's a bondage where the devil takes away the free will of man. Most christian men don't touch by choice, they are in bondage, their mind tells them to quit and the flesh overpowers the mind. Any bondage is from Satan, God wants us free. I can't imagine a christian man planning in advance next week that in order to maximize his pleasure he'd like to touch once a day minimum. I can't imagine when he is in his death bed wishing that he would have masturbated more during his life. So masturbation is a sin, no doubt. Not only the catholic church but the Reformation, Luther and Calvin condemn masturbation strongly. It is only in the 20th century that all of a sudden some say masturbation is not a sin, and I tell you that all our Church Fathers were right, masturbation is a sin and needs the forgiveness of Christ for the masturbator to enter heaven. Ideally God will through faith take away the sin so that masturbators will be set free of the bondage, otherwise the sin will be forgiven if confessed, but who wants to live this life in bondage to masturbation and keep confessing the same sin over and over again? Trust Jesus that he will take the sin away and set you free.

I thought all men masturbated because it gave them pleasure, why not? Women enjoy masturbation too! I bet Jesus masturbated whilst on earth, he was human after all, and no doubt had sexual feelings!

We ought not to be seekers of pleasure. Jesus never sinned, he was tempted by the devil and resisted the devil the scripture tells us. Satan offered him the whole world, and Jesus said thanks but no thanks. So the bible tells us that Jesus never sinned.

Now the bible doesn't tell us a lot about Jesus prior to being baptized by John and receiving the holy ghost in the shape of a dove that descended unto him. However, the bible tells us that Jesus was born of the spirit, not from the carnal union between Joseph and Mary. As a result Jesus did not inherit the original sin from Adam. He was the Son of God. At least that's my interpretation of scripture. So Jesus was not in bondage from original sin that all men inherit from Adam. As a result I believe Jesus never masturbated.
