And you base that on which verse of Scripture?
If you will look into it, you will find that one of the definitions of masturbation is self abuse. Which we know is defilling the Holy Spirits temple. Not to mention the reason God created sex besides reproduction is so man and woman can be intimate as Christ and the church. Masturbation is a very selfish act.

And further to my post above there is another way to overcome masturbation if you are single. If you have a girlfriend you like, propose to her and get married! This is the apostle Paul's and Luther's advice against lust, but this remedy only works if you have a girlfriend or fiancee. The apostle Paul recommended marriage to those that were unlike him and did not have the gift of celibacy.

What about those who aint got a girlfriend and who have lust but dont fancy one of the old wives tales?

We own our bodies, not God.

If we call Jesus Christ our Lord, can we still say that though?

Also, sinning is an offense to God, how it effects others is not the issue- I mean, most sin has an effect on those around us but it's against God, not man.

MASTURBATION IS NOT A SIN!!!!!!!!!!!! Only in the minds of the narrow minded is sex, which is pleasure for most people, regarded as dirty. That is just so SAD!!!
Now we arent God are we?;) I dont think any of us can say for sure unless we have hard evidence from God Himself. Which would be His word...in which the verdict did show biblical proof of it being wrong. But Im not going to get into this..its silly. All you guys have to do is pray that God show you how He feels about it and let the Him guide you. Thats all there is to it.

We don't have any idea what God thinks about masturbation or anything else for that matter. All we have is the perception of Biblical authors trying to get into the mind of God!
So I take it you dont believe all of the bible is correct? Ive met a lot of people on here that doesnt. It suprised me lol.

So, has any conclusion been found?

Or has this been 45 pages of "YES it IS!" - "No It's NOT!"

.

Funny how the bible is completely silent on the subject of masturbation.

Of course, there is always matthew 5:28 :sigh: .

A couple of years ago, I was loaded with tons of guilt because of this practice. Day and Night I would come up with strategies of defeating the habit, but I would eventually fail each time. Then I would feel guilty for 3-5 hours. I focused more on how to avoid masturbation(a very hard feat to accomplish), than enjoying my life. One day I actually wanted to do some research if Masturbation was a sin or not.

What is a sin?
"...for sin is the transgression of the law." ( 1 john 3:4)

Which law, though? (I don't know the answer, but perhaps hebrews 7:12 sheds some light,'For when there is a change of the priesthood, there must also be a change of the law.')

There are some laws in leviticus 15 which concern abnormal bodily discharges, but that only made a man ceremonially unclean.

When God was describing sexual sins in leviticus 18, incest, homosexuality, and adultery were all condemned by God. Yet, the act of masturbation was not condemned. Why not? That would of been the perfect context to condemn masturbation. Think about that. Think about the context. Leviticus were laws given to the Israelites right before they would inherit the land. God has specific commands concerning the sacrifices, the priests, leborsey, and ow the people should keep themselves holy. When it came to sexual sins, God wanted the Israelites to avoid Incest, adultery, and homosexual conduct, yet he did not comedy masturbation once. If I was a teenager living in Israel 3,000 years, what scripture would a Rabbi use that would show me if masturbation is sinful or not? If indeed I was living 3,000 years ago, I would want to serve God to the best of my ability. So, i know that I should avoid incest, adultery, and whatever, but what about masturbation? How could i know it it is bad or not , strictly from the old testament? Surly God did not want the israelites to sin, so why would he keep silent on masturbation is it is sinful?

New testament-
The only verse in the bible that has anything to do with masturbation is matthew 5:28,'But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.'

obviously, adultery in your heart and the very act of adultery are not the same degree of sin.

-Looking at a women with lust is adultery(sin)

What about thinking of a women? Can thinking of a women be different than actually looking at a women with lust?

Ok, lusting after porn is wrong(according to this verse). But what about thinking about women? Is it sinful?

People used to think that those who touch have physiological problems. In the 19th century, many people looked down upon those who masturbation. Many inventions came up that would...prevent one from practicing touch. obviously, Masturbation is completely normal(scientifically/mentally).

Tang, your stance would probably be better accepted in the Liberal 'denomination' forum, I think you will run into constant opposition here about the divine inspiration of the scriptures.

I mostly post on the liberal forum, but from time to time, when I feel masochistic, I look in here!
