It is a gray area and often those are the most dangerous. I encourage you to take the narrow path. Keep in mind

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God;

I think touching yourself, even done without lustful thoughts if you can manage that, still opens the door and establishes a stronghold. It becomes easier to have those thoughts when you find someone you are interested in and begin to try to justify it a nd in doing so dishonor that person. Take the safe road and abstain is my advice.
I think that this is pushing it a little, sexual immorality and masturbation are not the same, just as sexual intercourse and sexial immorality are not the same. Though they CAN interlock if one goes about it for evil purposes.

There is one passage that has been used against masturbation and that is Gen 38:8-11
Then Judah said to Onan, "Go into your brother's wife and perform the duty of a brother-in-law (i.e. have sex with her - Leverite law); raise up offspring for your brother; But since Onan knew that the offspring would not be his, he spilled his sperm on the ground whenever he went in to his brother's wife, so that he would not give offspring to his brother. ......

Not quite masturbation rather than withdrawal at the last moment (which doesn't work anyway!!) In those days they believed that sperm was miniture babies and that wasting sperm (through any other than in women incubators) was wrong.

In our flesh dwells no good thing!!! Do you not know that your body is the temple of God. And God dwelleth in us so think about it would God be caught in that act and the eyes of the Lord is in every place beholding the good and evil. It's a sexual immortality!!!

Was Paul talking about the physical flesh - which God created anyway, or, was he taling about flesh as against spiritual things?!

how do you know that?

Various people who have written about the way people though in those days.

The Catholics had a very similar belief to this for many centuries!

The best take on all this was in the "Life of Brian".

So what does one take of "wet dreams"? Also if a male has to have a test done on his sperm count, that is how it is taken. "..would God be caught in the act.." is a bit difficult to use because it depends on one's ideas and circumstances! Like going to the toilet / bathroom!
God created us to have sex and it is not always possible to do so, That's why there is rape, date rape, prostitutes, etc, because some (mainly males) cannot control their urges. Mastsbation would be a much better and safer prospect! (I can't do it myself because of Chronic Fatigue and bad artritis - well not very successfully anyway!)

Lets look at why we touch. Most of the time(i think) its because we are sad or lonely. In times like these we should look to God rather than ourselves for a boost. Also when you are praying or doing devotions or at church masturbation never comes to mind. Its usually when we are alone, and not feeling good.

That is a very sweeping statement! I don't think people always touch because they are sad and lonely, it is just gives an added boost one's sex life. I bet when some blokes are in church and a nubile female is sitting there masturbation is very much in mind!:D

Oh man, that is so straight into what Paul said - "but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life!"

The commandment, from both God and your minister, was good and all, but again, it turned out to be a curse, didn't it?

May be strange to do that without lust...If its for your spouse you may be okay. Otherwise i think its not worth finding out. When in doubt about an act then avoid it. You can use the scriptures that refer to food..if what i eat causes my brother to sin then i'll never eat meat again.. If you feel that act may cause your brother to judge you or to cause him or her to sin in some way then i'd avoid it like the plague. If you're not married I'd get me a wife when it's legal. oh, and loving each other first is also good idea....Happy trails!;)

but besides lust there is also the high possiblity of holding it as a god in your life

There is also the 'risk' of those who hold on to particular issues, for or against,!!! and let it dominate them then they have more than held it as a god!
