Why do scholars argue that the Bible teaches a flat earth cosmology

Because what little the OT says about geography is entirely consistent with the ancient near eastern flat earth model.

And those who argue otherwise tend to rely on dubious things like equating circles to spheres.

then make fun of anyone who believes the earth is flat?

Because we've learned a few things in the past 2800 years, including that the Earth is not flat. Flat eartherism is not a tenable position today. And indeed, it is risible.

Only on paper.

Or circles with maps.

I love the part that says, "Each parallel of latitude is a full circle."

Evo is not science actually, that intelligence and conciousness can come from non intelligence and build brains bit by bit like evo explains is harder to believe than God
Yeah, learning science requires an effort.
Learning calculus is harder than simplybelieving in god.
Learning genetics is harder than simply believing in god.
learning geology is harder than simply believing in god.
Histology is harder than simply believing in god.
Creationists are basically lazy.

I love the part that says, "Imaginary lines are drawn on the globe."

That's right.

You can even draw triangles, squares, stars, rectangles, and lines on a globe.

If I drew a two inch line on a globe, then said God can sit above that line on the Earth, am I espousing flat earthism?

(Please answer that.)

The point is not about whether the Arctic Circle is #1 a circle and #2 part of Globe-ism. Both are true.

The point is that the concept of the Arctic Circle (or any such imaginary circles) had not yet been imagined in Isaiah's time.

God is speaking to Isaiah, using terms Isaiah understands.

Given your interpretation of circle, God is not using terms Isaiah would understand.

That is not the definition of flat earthism.

Nobody said it was.

Point or no point, would you care to answer my question, please?

You doing anything with a globe (and tacitly implying it represents the shape of the earth) would not be espousing flat eartherism.

Really what they are doing is showing that the Bible teaches a 6000 year-old Earth no more definitively than it teaches a flat one and pointing out that hypocrisy to creationists. Being able to make fun of flat-Earthers is a sport all can enjoy.

I guess I'll have to make it into a challenge thread and pray for an honest answer.

Why do scholars argue that the Bible teaches a flat earth cosmology, then make fun of anyone who believes the earth is flat?

(Or was flat at one time?)
Because the bible does reflect the flat earth cosmology of the people who wrote it. And because scholars have no time for making fun of people who believe silly things.
