a strawman is a mispresentation of another's argument

e.g. saying that people who believe contraception is wrong blame a piece of rubber for their morality problem

which is like saying that someone who said theirr marriage was seriously harmed by credit card debt is blaming a piece of plastic

Except none of us have said that. We just pointed out to the one guy that blamed his failed marriage on contraceptives that the marriage failed to preferences, which they do all the time. Since you got our arguments wrong, your analogy was likewise poor.

actually condom availability is consistently associated with higher HIV rates, even in the best studies
You make condoms available where there is a market.

If contraception is destructive then not building a house is equivalent to burning one down.

As for the pope: As Earl Butz, Secretary of Agriculture under Nixon put it, "You no playa da game, you no makea da rules.”

I dont understand the question. I use contraception with all my sexual partners and I have never been destroyed.

Be glad that it doesn't make sense. That means you are still sane.

Hi BleedingHeart!,

actually it was stated that believing contraception to be a cause of his divorce was blaming a piece of rubber for his problem.

obviously that is a straw man.

Peace of the Lord Jesus Christ,

Hi Bleedingheart!,

in fact he did not say that a piece of rubber was to blame for his problem, but that contraception was a cause of his divorce

that makes sense since contraception is immoral

Peace of the Lord Jesus Christ to all of you,

pat

It makes no sense at all.

How did contraception ruin his marriage?

How is contraception immoral?

You can't say it's immoral because it ruins marriages and also say it ruins marriages because it's immoral. You are trapped in circular logic.

both the Catholic Church and Protestantism historically have strongly condemned contraception.

were they right?
If god want us to get pregnant, not use birth control. Then they may be right to a point, since I don't believe they should try to force anyone not to,especially none believers. Also only God knows someone heart, that should be only Gods business.

can contraception be linked to adultery, divorce, and other societal ills?
I don't know about some men and women cheat on there hunband and don't use a condom or anything else.

"in fact he did not say that a piece of rubber was to blame for his problem, but that contraception was a cause of his divorce"

His problem was his marriage failing. He says it failed because of contraception. In the first clause, you are saying that he's not saying this but in the second clause you are saying that he IS indeed saying this? Which is it? Did contraception ruin his marriage or not. I'd like a straight answer.

Pat -

Which is why I'd understand if you were against contraceptive sex. Instead, you are passionate in your defense of it. Indeed, yours is the only denomination on the planet in all of Christian history that not only officially supports it but promotes it - even teaching classes in the parish center on how to do it, sometimes even mandating that couples learn how to do contraceptive sex.

Ah, the irony of it all.

Hi Gishin!,

that is a straw man since nobody made such an argument

if you are asking why contraception is immoral, I would answer that it is immoral because an essential purpose of the sexual act is to put sperm into the woman

Peace of the Lord Jesus Christ to You,

pat

Why is it immoral to not put sperm into the woman.

I daresay that this is what people disagree with. Would you say that the infertile or the post-menopausal shouldn't have sex, since procreation cannot be achieved?

No it's fine as long as you still put sperm into the woman apparently.

Wow. So, the divine purpose of sex if for a man to [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] into a woman. That's the essential purpose of it. I just find that a remarkable position for you to make.*

Okay. So, you are thus okay with spermicides.
And you condemn RCC Natural Family Planning since it's designed to not do that.

* Note: I know a couple of guys that would agree with you, but you are the first female to express such a thought in my experience.

What happens if the man accidentally starts thinking about the chestburster from Alien during sex and loses his erection before he [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]? Is that immoral?
