The Old Testament was written before Christ, and it talks about hell and about images of baptism.

The New Testament was complete at the end of the first century. It talks about baptism and hell.

So I wonder what you mean when you talk about a changing god and about 30AD...

YAQUBOS†

Want to show a couple of those baptism and hell references from the Old Testament?

Who told you this?

Do you first know what baptism is?

YAQUBOS†

Bathing. In the context of the temple it was a ritualized bathing that "purified" the priests to enter the holy of holies.

John baptized common folk to prepare them for their entering the presence of the Lord.

That is is also the origin of bathing the dead and preparation of the bodies for the afterlife.

1. I didn't say there are baptisms in the Old Testament. I said there are images for it.

2. I'll give you references as soon as the topic is about the Old Testament.

Wrong definitions.

So make sure you know first what we are talking about, and only then you will be able to participate in our discussion in this thread.

Have a nice day.

I am so glad there is someone like you to pronounce absolute correctness for us... oh, you didn't did you?

Anyone can say "wrong". Gotta anything actual to add?

But believing is the key in Mark which make us righteous, not getting wet!

I agree with the not getting wet part.

I do not agree that believing makes anyone righteous.

Righteousness is in the doing not the believing.

I don't need to explain to you what the topic is. We are not defining baptism, but we are discussing whether it is necessary for Salvation or not.

Righteousness is in the doing not the believing.

You are talking about the righteousness of works according to the Law.

I prefer the Righteousness of God according to the Gospel, "For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH." ( Romans 1:17 )

Have a nice time.

With a DEAD faith.

We are talking about Christian living faith, not demons' dead faith.

Grace is the key-word. You receive the Grace of God by faith, not by works.

YAQUBOS†

Demons ? Dead Faith? What are you talking about?

You said you must believe, and I said believing is not enough... I said nothing about faith (alive or dead) and nothing about grace... Grace has NOTHING to do with one's belief or faith.

Oh, by the way.. going off topic... faith is works and works are faith.

Sorry for my delay in response, I lost track of this thread in my subscriptions.

I guess what I do not understand is this. Jesus came to set an example. He lived like he expects us to live, talked like he expects us to talk. Taught like he expects us to teach.

He went through the "Water". He told Nicodemus, less a man be born again he can not "see" the Kingdom of heaven. Then said less a man be born of the water "and" the Spirit he can not enter into the Kingdom.

Thats clear, as Nicodemus asked even sought for clarity about the womb. Jesus clarified it for him. The initial statement was "again". The second statement stated of what. Water and Spirit.

Peter resounded that on the day of Pentecost when they ask "What must we do to be saved"

His answer, Repent, Be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ (Why?) for the remission of your sins (Remission is beyond forgiveness), and ye shall recieve the gift of the Holy Ghost. Notice that the Water, and the Holy Ghost are mentioned seperately.

Cornelius house. They recieved the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. They went straightway to the water. Why, its required.

Phillip and the Eunich. The Eunich believed, and said there is much water what keepeth me from being baptized? Phillip took him to the water and baptized him.

There are places where God uses water to seperate his people from their past. Isreal seperated from Egypt by water. Their past was erased when the water returned and the Egyptians that pursued them were destroyed.

I know there are many that wish to stand on belief being enough. If belief were enough, Jesus would not have had to die. We are saved by grace through faith.

We identify with Christ through Repentance (Death), Baptism (Burial), Filling of the Holy Ghost (Resurection). The Baptism is where we take on the name of Christ. We are Baptized in his name, in the name of Jesus.

Arising a new creature, as all things pass away and all things become new. We have a new mind. We have Power, Love and a Sound Mind. Given to us through Christ who strengthens me.

To many are trying to simplify the relationship God "requires". Its not about religion, its about a relationship. There is a required acceptable service unto the Lord. ANything less is unacceptable.

The Word of God says show me your faith with out Works, and I will show you my faith by my works. Faith without Works is dead.

If your saved and Holy on the inside it will be obvious on the outside. How so, your tree will bear fruit. APple trees bare apples. Cherry trees bare cherrys. Christians, look like Christ.

Praise the Lord for he is great and greatly to be praised.

^So what is the meaning of water in John 3?

Joh:3:5: Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Joh:3:6: That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

I think it would have be obvious that a human is born of water so why mention this in the scripture of something already known?
The subject and key is about what is spiritual , and the born again spiritual life is being explained.
How would a person know about this born again life without getting any instructions, and as faR AS KNOW OUR INSTRUCTION COMES BY THE wORD OF GOD ; AND I THINK THE BIBLE is like a water to us and it washes us,like in Eph:5:26: That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

1. We are all born of water, inasmuch as we all came from the earth, and all the earth was once covered in water.
2. We are all covered, and protected by water until we are separated from the womb of our mother.
3. Up to 60% of human body weight is composed of water. (infants are about 78% water)

1Corinthians 15: 45. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
46. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.
47. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is [the Lord] from heaven.

Unless there would be the 'man of earth' first, there would be no second man of spirit.

Exactly. So stop discussing, and try to understand first what we are talking about.

OF COURSE you have to understand what baptism is.

Ok. So follow our discussion, and you will know what it is. It's not us who will define or RE-define it. We have to accept the definition of GOD as it is revealed in the Bible.

Demons ? Dead Faith? What are you talking about?

That's what I am telling you all the time: These are basic truths of our Faith, and you still don't know anything about them.

It's interesting that you talked about even demons believing, and you still don't know what demons' faith is... :) Didn't you know that you were quoting from the Epistle of James, where he talks about demons' dead faith? :)

You said you must believe, and I said believing is not enough... I said nothing about faith (alive or dead) and nothing about grace... Grace has NOTHING to do with one's belief or faith.

:) Yeah, you talked about believing, but not about faith... That's interesting, KCDAD: you still don't know that believing = faith...

Ah, and you still don't know that faith is when you receive God's Grace.

Oh, by the way.. going off topic... faith is works and works are faith.

Faith is not works. Open the Bible for once...

I guess what I do not understand is this. Jesus came to set an example.

No, not just that. He came to SAVE us. We can't follow His example without first being SAVED.

Jesus didn't bring another Law like that of Moses.

He lived like he expects us to live, talked like he expects us to talk. Taught like he expects us to teach.

So we must not get married, for example? ( Because Jesus was not married ) ...

He went through the "Water".

But not because He was a sinner.

He told Nicodemus, less a man be born again he can not "see" the Kingdom of heaven. Then said less a man be born of the water "and" the Spirit he can not enter into the Kingdom.

Yes. So how is this related with water baptism? Jesus was talking about the Word of God.

Thats clear, as Nicodemus asked even sought for clarity about the womb. Jesus clarified it for him. The initial statement was "again". The second statement stated of what. Water and Spirit.

Yes. So you need to be born again, or else your water baptism doesn't help you.

N.B.: Cornelius was born again BEFORE he was baptized.

Notice that he was not talking about the Holy Spirit, but about the GIFT of the Holy Spirit.

Remission of sins is the forgiveness of sins. Baptism cannot bring forgiveness unless you receive the Grace of God by Faith.

In the Old Testament, not all those who were circumcised were circumcised in their hearts and saved. But a greater judgment comes on those who call themselves Jews but do not believe in God ( with a LIVING faith ) .

In the New Testament, not all those who are baptized are born again and saved. But a greater judgment comes on those who call themselves Christians but do not believe in Jesus Christ ( with a LIVING faith ) .

The water of the Flood was not enough to save Noah and his family. The Ark was essential. Or else they would be lost with the others. In the same way, the water of baptism brings a greater judgment on you if you are not in the Ark that is JESUS CHRIST, in whom we are BY FAITH.

Cornelius house. They recieved the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. They went straightway to the water. Why, its required.

Yes. But do you notice that it is not required FOR the receiving of the gift of the Holy Spirit, but WITH the gift of the Holy Spirit.

As I told you before, water baptism is essential IN Salvation, not FOR Salvation. Cornelius and his household were born again and saved BEFORE they were baptised.

Phillip and the Eunich. The Eunich believed, and said there is much water what keepeth me from being baptized? Phillip took him to the water and baptized him.

Exactly. As he was saved by faith, he was baptised. So baptism is not essential FOR Salvation.

There are places where God uses water to seperate his people from their past. Isreal seperated from Egypt by water. Their past was erased when the water returned and the Egyptians that pursued them were destroyed.

But not all the Israelites reached Jordan and the promised land. So Baptism does not save.

I know there are many that wish to stand on belief being enough.

Belief is not enough. Living Faith is enough for Salvation.

If belief were enough, Jesus would not have had to die. We are saved by grace through faith.

If Faith was not enough, then Jesus didn't have to die. The exact opposite of what you said.

Faith is when you admit that you are a totally lost sinner who cannot do anything to save himself, and you receive the Grace of God brought by Jesus Christ who was crucified because of our sins and rose again for our justification.

We identify with Christ through Repentance (Death), Baptism (Burial), Filling of the Holy Ghost (Resurection). The Baptism is where we take on the name of Christ. We are Baptized in his name, in the name of Jesus.

Yes, in baptism we take on the Name of Christ. But many who call Him Lord Lord will not enter the Kingdom. They didn't receive the Grace of God by FAITH. They were only baptized with a dead faith.

Arising a new creature, as all things pass away and all things become new. We have a new mind. We have Power, Love and a Sound Mind. Given to us through Christ who strengthens me.

Even experience contradicts what you just said. Many baptized people do not have a new mind and love. They are murderers, adulterers, immoral, etc.

The Bible says: "No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God." ( 1 John 3:9 )

So many people who are baptized are not yet born of God.

To many are trying to simplify the relationship God "requires". Its not about religion, its about a relationship. There is a required acceptable service unto the Lord. ANything less is unacceptable.

The Word of God says show me your faith with out Works, and I will show you my faith by my works. Faith without Works is dead.

Yes. works SHOW living faith.

If your saved and Holy on the inside it will be obvious on the outside. How so, your tree will bear fruit. APple trees bare apples. Cherry trees bare cherrys. Christians, look like Christ.

Exactly. So you first need to be saved by faith IN ORDER THAT you may bear fruits of Salvation.

No, not just that. He came to SAVE us. We can't follow His example without first being SAVED.

I can embrace that.

Jesus didn't bring another Law like that of Moses.

Did he not add two great commandments upon which all the commandments and the apostles where to hang? Ok before i am taken to the cross over that, I am not saying "Law" as it seems others are defining it. There is an expected way we are to live. there are things we must do.

So we must not get married, for example? ( Because Jesus was not married ) ...

I prefer we do not get into trying to go by a verbatim midset or this will turn into a lions den. I feel your passion and I think you feel mine, and I certianly hope you understand that is not sent as a dart, but as a shield to protect. Not from me, but we all know there are th ose trolling waiting for an opportunity to pounce.

But not because He was a sinner.

That goes without saying. There are many things that one has to assume and maybe this is where I am in error. I assume if one is engaged in this topic one has at least basic knowledge of who Jesus.

Yes. So how is this related with water baptism? Jesus was talking about the Word of God.

I do not see that he was referring to the Word of God as the water. Maybe you can help me see that clearer. I see that water has been a serpation for Gods people all the way back to the Exodus of Egypt, when Water seperated Isreal from their past Egypt and the water washed away their past Egypt when it rolled back and destroyed the army of Egypt. Hence the water baptism today does the very thing. Washes away our past hence the remission of sins.

Yes. So you need to be born again, or else your water baptism doesn't help you.

What are you reborn of if you are not baptised. The step is three steps. Repentance, Baptism, and the infilling of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 2:36-38
36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
KJV

DId Peter miss it? After three years of training and walking with Jesus, did he miss the basics of salvation?

Remission of sins is the forgiveness of sins. Baptism cannot bring forgiveness unless you receive the Grace of God by Faith.

Remission of sin and forgiveness are not the same. Remission is as if they never existed. Wiped clean. All things pass away all things become new.

In the Old Testament, not all those who were circumcised were circumcised in their hearts and saved. But a greater judgment comes on those who call themselves Jews but do not believe in God ( with a LIVING faith ) .

I understand that we are now circumsised in our hearts not physically.

In the New Testament, not all those who are baptized are born again and saved. But a greater judgment comes on those who call themselves Christians but do not believe in Jesus Christ ( with a LIVING faith ) .

I absolutley do not follow you here. Please help me as I do not understand what you are saying here.

The water of the Flood was not enough to save Noah and his family. The Ark was essential. Or else they would be lost with the others. In the same way, the water of baptism brings a greater judgment on you if you are not in the Ark that is JESUS CHRIST, in whom we are BY FAITH.

Faith alone will not save you. Faith doesnt save you, we are saved by Grace, how, through Faith.

Yes. But do you notice that it is not required FOR the receiving of the gift of the Holy Spirit, but WITH the gift of the Holy Spirit.

I agree the order they happen is not that important. its Gods plan the order is not left to us, only that all the ingredients are included.

As I told you before, water baptism is essential IN Salvation, not FOR Salvation. Cornelius and his household were born again and saved BEFORE they were baptised.

I disagree. They were not saved until they had gone through the water. They were clearly on the way but there yet. The baptism completed the ingredients.

Exactly. As he was saved by faith, he was baptised. So baptism is not essential FOR Salvation.

Do you think it is ironic that this water issue comes up over and over in the Bible. The Word of God does not repeat thigns unless they are important. Its like an old teacher of mine says, hit it till they get it. Even God used that teaching principle. He stated it over and over again. If it had not been necessary, then why, why would they have done so.

WHy would Phillip had baptised the Eunich if it was not needed. Why would the Eunich felt convinced he needed it less the Holy Ghost reveal this to him. Notice no where did that setting of scripture say the Eunich had recieved the Holy Ghost. Why did they say at Cornelius house they went straight way to the water. That means they did not let any dust settle.

Belief is not enough. Living Faith is enough for Salvation.

What is living Faith? How do you gage Faith? Show me your Faith. If you can show it to me, then what is it? Its a work. Ok let me keep myself off the tree again.

WORKS DO NOT SAVE YOU, however, your Faith is demonstrated in all you do. If I say I am a sober man, and you see me drunk am I truly a sober man? No. The works, is your faith in action. If I tell you a meteor is falling and going to land where you are standing and you believe me or have faith in my statement you will probable move from wher eyou are standing. Thats Faith in motion. Works are the fruit of your Faith. they however do not save you at all. they just are the light of Jesus shinning through you.

If Faith was not enough, then Jesus didn't have to die. The exact opposite of what you said.

The devils and demons believe, or have faith that Jesus lives. Yet they are not saved. Grace saves, through Faith.

Faith is when you admit that you are a totally lost sinner who cannot do anything to save himself, and you receive the Grace of God brought by Jesus Christ who was crucified because of our sins and rose again for our justification.

Agreed

Yes, in baptism we take on the Name of Christ. But many who call Him Lord Lord will not enter the Kingdom. They didn't receive the Grace of God by FAITH. They were only baptized with a dead faith.

If they are baptised that is not dead faith. That is faith in motion. Faith in Gods word and doing what he has said is essential and required. Liek Being Holy cause he is Holy. Being perfect because he is perfect. How do we do this through him.

Even experience contradicts what you just said. Many baptized people do not have a new mind and love. They are murderers, adulterers, immoral, etc.

I agree witht hat. Many go through the motions, but they did not truly repent. They did not sell out to Christ. They were just tingling brass.

So many people who are baptized are not yet born of God.

Agreed

Yes. works SHOW living faith. Exactly. So you first need to be saved by faith IN ORDER THAT you may bear fruits of Salvation.

The three steps of salvation take you there. Notice in repentance, that is man controlled. Baptism is man controlled. The filling of the Holy Ghost is God controlled. Your not saved until you are sealed with the Holy Ghost. That is out of mans hands lest we should boast.

God Bless

I can embrace that.

And that's very essential. It contradicts what you said about trying to follow Christ's example.

Did he not add two great commandments upon which all the commandments and the apostles where to hang? Ok before i am taken to the cross over that, I am not saying "Law" as it seems others are defining it. There is an expected way we are to live. there are things we must do.

No, Jesus Christ didn't add any Commandment. If you think otherwise, then please quote those Commandments.

And, yes, you don't have to do ANYTHING to save yourself. You only have to RECEIVE the Grace of God by faith.

So let's clearly say it: we don't follow Jesus' example in a fleshly manner.

That goes without saying. There are many things that one has to assume and maybe this is where I am in error. I assume if one is engaged in this topic one has at least basic knowledge of who Jesus.

So the baptism of Jesus cannot be taken as an example in explaining our baptism.

By the way: Jesus was baptized with JOHN's baptism. We are baptized with Christian baptism.

Before I give you the biblical references, please tell me how material water washes sin. Did the water of the Flood wash the sins of those who were not in the Ark? Did the water of the Red Sea wash the sins of the Israelites who fell in the desert after they passed the sea?

What are you reborn of if you are not baptised.

I let the Bible answer you:

"for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God." ( 1 Peter 1:23 )

No. I already quoted Peter explaining how we are born again. :)

Repentance, baptism and the filling of the Holy Spirit are all parts of Salvation. You receive them all by faith alone.

Remission of sin and forgiveness are not the same. Remission is as if they never existed. Wiped clean. All things pass away all things become new.

And that's what forgiveness is. Let me quote the passage you quoted from Acts 2 from another version, and see:

"Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."" ( Acts 2:38 )

I understand that we are now circumsised in our hearts not physically.

In the Old Testament also, the Jews had to be circumcised in heart, and not only physically.

I absolutley do not follow you here. Please help me as I do not understand what you are saying here.

Just as a circumcised Jew was not saved just by being circumcised physically, but he had to circumcise his heart, in the same way a Christian is not born again just by being baptized outwardly, but he also has to be baptized by the Holy Spirit in New Birth in his heart. Just as the Jew brought a greater judgment on himself by being in God's people but without really having his heart circumcised, in the same manner your judgment is greater if you are called by the Name of Christ, but you are not born again.

Faith alone will not save you. Faith doesnt save you, we are saved by Grace, how, through Faith.

Exactly. So we are saved by receiving that Grace, and not by doing anything else. So Salvation is through living faith alone.

I agree the order they happen is not that important. its Gods plan the order is not left to us, only that all the ingredients are included.

So Salvation is not by baptism. Baptism is part of that Salvation.

I disagree. They were not saved until they had gone through the water. They were clearly on the way but there yet. The baptism completed the ingredients.

Well, the Bible says that they were saved by hearing the words that Peter preached. Then they were baptized because they already received the Holy Spirit.

Exactly! I said it, and I repeat it again: Baptism is necessary IN Salvation, but not FOR Salvation.

Do you think something is not necessary unless it saves you? Salvation itself, after being received, becomes unnecessary for you?

WHy would Phillip had baptised the Eunich if it was not needed. Why would the Eunich felt convinced he needed it less the Holy Ghost reveal this to him. Notice no where did that setting of scripture say the Eunich had recieved the Holy Ghost. Why did they say at Cornelius house they went straight way to the water. That means they did not let any dust settle.

Yes, baptism is necessary as a part of Salvation, but not FOR Salvation.

What is living Faith? How do you gage Faith? Show me your Faith. If you can show it to me, then what is it? Its a work. Ok let me keep myself off the tree again.

Living faith is that faith that received God's Grace in Jesus Christ by admitting that my works cannot save me. This faith gives good fruits = good works. Faith is not a work. It's the receiving of God's Work or Grace.

Exactly: works are the fruit of faith. You are saved by faith, and then you give fruits of Salvation.

The devils and demons believe, or have faith that Jesus lives. Yet they are not saved. Grace saves, through Faith.

Demons have a dead faith = knowledge. That cannot save anyone. I am talking about the living faith that received God's Grace. Salvation is by Grace alone through faith alone. You can't do anything to save yourself. You just receive what Jesus did for you.

You agreed on the following: "Faith is when you admit that you are a totally lost sinner who cannot do anything to save himself, and you receive the Grace of God brought by Jesus Christ who was crucified because of our sins and rose again for our justification."

I have put in bold the part that I want you to notice very well. That part says that there is no work you can do in order to save yourself.

If they are baptised that is not dead faith. That is faith in motion. Faith in Gods word and doing what he has said is essential and required. Liek Being Holy cause he is Holy. Being perfect because he is perfect. How do we do this through him.

Many disciples were baptized, but they were not true believers. They only believed with a dead faith. The Bible says that clearly.

I agree witht hat. Many go through the motions, but they did not truly repent. They did not sell out to Christ. They were just tingling brass.

So they were baptized, but were not born again.

You agreed on the following:

"So many people who are baptized are not yet born of God."

So you agree that baptism is not the new birth.

The three steps of salvation take you there. Notice in repentance, that is man controlled. Baptism is man controlled. The filling of the Holy Ghost is God controlled. Your not saved until you are sealed with the Holy Ghost. That is out of mans hands lest we should boast.

Notice that repentance is God controlled, baptism is God controlled and the filling of the Holy Spirit is God controlled. And God is all in all. Man only OBEYS by faith. When God gives you living faith by His Grace, you repent, and you receive what is presented to you in baptism, and you are baptized with the Holy Spirit.

God Bless

Amen. God bless you in the Name of our Beloved.
