Function, yes, I assume that if Iran actually builds a bomb it will function, but they are still useless as weapons of war. Use one and the backlash will be ridiculously bad.

(When Japan was bombed in Aug 1945. no one could retaliate and there are serious questions as to whether the nuclear bombings had any impact on the surrender of Japan anyway.)

Somewhen, around the turn of the century, I flew into Tehran with a couple of colleagues. While we waited in the baggage hall for our luggage we were intrigued by a large mural depicting advancing tanks, strafing aircraft, explosions, missiles, etc. We asked the chap sent to guide us through the formalities what the words in Farsi on the mural meant. "Death to all foreign infidels," he replied. Then, with a genuine smile that was echoed by most Iranians we met, "Welcome to Tehran".
