I was re-reading the posts in this thread and found this. So I gotta respond to it.
If that isn't the biggest mis-statement! Do not blame on all of Europe the results of the actions taken by Portugal and Spain. Go read up on world history.
As for my family, we didn't ask to come here either. Our bloodline was brought over as slaves. And after our freedom was earned, our family had fought in every war after the revolutionary way (including during it).
Contempt, huh? You never lost a job to an illegal alien before, have you?I laugh at the contempt many Americans hold for illegal immigrants.
That are far from stupid. Can you prove they pay taxes? No. Can I prove they aren't? Actually, yes. Somewhat. Far more than you can prove you're side of the argument. As for "jobs most of us think we're too good for and would never do anyway even if they were available", save your uneducated statements for somewhere else. The stupid arguments such as "they don't pay taxes" (most of the time - wrong) or "they're taking away jobs from Americans" (oh yes, the jobs most of us think we're too good for and would never do anyway even if they were available - wrong).
At first, yes. But then all these unemployed Americans that have applications turned in will actually get hired. THEN not only will the work get done, it'll be completed on time, it'll be done right, and on top of all of that the welfare expenses the states have will disappear fast because of so many people that are no longer unemployed. And then taxes get paid and the country stands a far better chance on getting out of debt because people are....paying their taxes. If we took all the illegal immigrants out of this country, stuff would NOT be getting done.
That doesn't make it any more right.I kind of look at it this way - yes, something needs to be done but let the ones that are here go through some kind of process to become legal, legit citizens. I don't have any friends that are illegal immigrants but I do know of several (I do probably know more but people aren't too open about their status for obvious reasons) and most have been here for YEARS (some since they were 5 and are now in their 20's).
HAAAAAAA!!!!! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! For all intents and purposes those people are just as American as someone who (out of pure luck) was born here. It cracks me up that America was founded by...ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS yet we hold such contempt for modern ones. Europeans had no real "right" to come over and seize a Native people's land but we did it anyway.

Go back to school and re-learn history. Then come back and debate about this. I don't think you are really all that educated on the subject. And as for the other argument I hear a lot about the illegals sucking welfare dry...I know far more Americans leeching off a system they've never really paid into! THAT'S a bigger problem IMO. We're so entitled we can't even look closely at ourselves. It's not the illegal immigrants that are ruining this country, in fact it could be argued our country is as prosperous because of them! So until we're ready to not be so dependent on cheap, exploitative labor (not to them though), we can't really have this immigration discussion. Like I said...want cake...eat cake...then talk horribly about the cake because the cake is illegal. LOL
