  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

This is all good advice that I think I need to take heart. Jennie, I've always been the opposite of you. I've always assumed (and still do, to be honest) that most people don't like me for some reason or another. I think it's because I was never well liked as a child and was constantly told negative things about my character (and my physical appearance, but that's another issue for another day! :p). So I guess it still always surprises me when people say nice things to or about me, especially comments like, "Oh you're so nice/sweet/friendly/likable/lovely/etc." My reaction in my head is always "Really? How? Whyyy??" I don't believe it, probably because it contradicts what I was always told about myself (and therefore, accepted as truth). But this advice I think is good. And I think I need to listen to it, apply it, and take it to heart. So thanks for the excellent advice!

Because people are actually not used to genuine kindness like yours. And when you see it, you know its real. Usually such acts are seen right through. All of them. :)

I can see how you would be like "how, why?" especially if you've grown in that environment. And I am sorry for that  I do think you are one of the kindest people I've met on CF. :)

I think for me why it was so surprising to find out that people dont always have a good opinion of me is because I always strive to help others, please people, and while i do try to spare someones feelings I try to tell it how it is. Maybe sometimes it comes across as unfeeling. I just find it necessary not to waste time.

IJWTS- that I have a theory that living by the ocean helps keep the stomach flu away. I think it's something about the salt in the air. When we lived inland, there would be a nasty stomach flu that would go around every year. And everyone I knew would get it. Now that we've lived by the ocean for the last 3 years, only one person in my family got it one year and it didn't last that long.

I always feel physically better the closer I am to the ocean.

Theory supported.

Hmm. Maybe there's some truth to this. Or maybe not. But I rarely ever get the stomach flu and I have lived one street away from the shore of the Gulf of Mexico almost my entire life. :D

I think there's truth to it. Some of the healthiest and longest living cultures on the planet are near the ocean. I've just noticed an overall healthiness in my family especially when it comes to influenza and gastro-intestinal ailments since moving closer to the ocean.

Weird. When I lived in Illinois, I rarely got sick to my tummy. I move CLOSER to the ocean(well...like 2 hours away?), and now my tummy hurts more often

I prove you wrong!
I think it's about the air quality. I don't know what the air quality was like in Illinois for you, but where you are now, I'm sure it's horrible.

And I didn't specify that before we lived 2 minutes from the ocean, we lived 25 minutes from the ocean. Inland is still inland. I'm talking about living so close you can hear the waves crash, the seals bark and the fog horns blow.

My father was a priest among his peers
My mother was barren and advanced in years
Both were righteous before God and blameless

When one day my dad went into the temple to burn incense
And an angel appeared and told him things that made no sense
So it was that people were made to have joy and gladness

The time had come for the prophecy to be unveiled at last
What will his name be called, they asked..
On a tablet, my father wrote, "His name is John."

All who heard, kept these things in mind

Until one day in the wilderness the people did find
The one crying in the wilderness saying, "Make straight the paths of the Lord."

I wore a garment of camels hair and leather girdle
And people from all around Jordan river encircled
Being baptized while confessing their sins

I said commit deeds worthy of repentance
Or this will be your death sentence:
Like a tree without good fruit; you will be thrown into the flames

For I baptize with water

But He who comes after is hotter
He will baptize you with The Holy Ghost and fire

Then to Jordan came this Jesus from Galilee
And I told Him I had need to be baptized of thee
But He said, “suffer it now: for we must fulfill all righteousness.”

Then when Jesus came out of the water
The heavens parted above
And the Holy Spirit descended as a dove
And a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.”

Now before the days I was cast into prison
There arose a question that caused some division
They asked, “What about this man you witnessed, behold He baptizes and all men come to Him.”
I said, “He must increase; but I must decrease.” He that believes in Him life shall never cease
But they that believe Him not the wrath of God abides on them.

Now shortly before my life was to end
Two of my disciples to Jesus I did send
Asking, “Are you He that should come or do we look for another?”

He said, “Go your way, and tell John what you see and hear; how the blind see
The lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear; the dead are raised,
To the poor the gospel is preached. Blessed is whosoever is not offended in Me.”

So when death is near
Don’t lose faith and fear
For He has promised to never leave no forsake you.

And if in service God chooses for you to be killed
Count it a privilege, don’t resist His will
Because to be absent from the body is to be present with Him

Then in glory you’ll be ever with the King
A new song to sing
“The Lamb of God for sinners slain!”

Can I temptation face each day

While staying pure and chaste alway?

Can I not sin when tempted sore?

Can I the devil’s roar ignore?

To faithful be seems unto me

Well nigh unto impossible. Refrain

Refrain: Yes, my friend, with Christ you can,

With Christ it is HIMpossible.

Can I be faithful in my pain

And not once whine or e’er complain?

Can body hurt, what seems for aye,

And I not gripe one single day?

To faithful be seems unto me

Well nigh unto impossible. Refrain

Can I cruel persecution face

And be expected to show grace?

Can I for Jesus ever stand

When plagued by some tormenter’s hand?

To faithful be seems unto me

Well nigh unto impossible. Refrain

Can death and sorrow me surround

And I to Christ be faithful found?

Can I while wallowing in grief

Not doubt or fear in unbelief?

To faithful be seems unto me

Well nigh unto impossible. Refrain

Without the Lord— without His grace—

Without the light to see His face—

‘Twould be for me— to run life’s race—

Impossible.

Without Christ’s righteousness to don—

Without His pow’r to carry on—

‘Twould be— to run life’s marathon—

Impossible.

Without God’s Word to speak anew—

Without His Spirit to imbue—

‘Twould be— for me to peace pursue—

Impossible.

Without Christ’s love to me compel—

Without His wisdom to excel—

‘Twould be— for me to finish well

Impossible.

Without the hope and guarantee

That He’d return eventually—

To win the prize— ‘twould be for me—

Impossible.

IJWTS, I think Keri has a point. While I'm probably an hour away from the ocean I'm a lot closer than I was in Texas and I got rapidly sicker the longer I stayed in Austin. Now I'm feeling physically a lot better being back near it. I always thought while out there it was partially the air.

Though for me I also partially blame the food differences. It's so nice being able to drink tap water again without it smelling like sewage and tasting like it's full of minerals or something. It was like licking a rock. Even store bought food though that I had out there seems to taste better here. Like canned stuff even that should be the same either place.

Isn't the moist, humid air in Austin from the Gulf? I always thought dry air was better than moist air?? When I lived in Houston, I got strep throat every year like clockwork. When I moved to Michigan, it's much drier and I have never had it since.

For sure, I constantly complained about the humidity, I've always said I could never live on the east coast. Been as far as West Virginia once and hated it. Felt sticky before even turning the water off in the shower. Though for austin I also blamed the Cedar trees, never had allergies in my life till I moved there lol
