If you were not a Christian, what would you be?

I can't believe what the Bible tells us to be true but I do believe in God - so I have rejected Christianity and call myself a Deist.
Understandable, but the system of belief that is Deism has some characteristics, like believing God doesn't intervene in the world, save men, or even care about them. Would that be your view?

I arguably have an eclectic system as it is, but picking just one, it might be something like Stoicism or a Greek philosophical system of some sort. Or maybe one of the Chinese philosophers, like Xunzi or Zhuangzi.

No. I use the term Deist loosely. Perhaps Theist might be more apt?
I believe in God. I believe He loves us. I believe He intervenes in our lives - through nature and other people rather than miracles (but nature and people are all rather miraculous!)

You could easily fit into a Unitarian Universalist church.

I'm not a Christian.

However, if I were not what I am now and not a Christian either, I would possibly be a Stoic, Epicurean, Secular Humanist, or a Buddhist.

Or possibly gravitate towards Thelema, though I doubt that I would care about the ritual Magick (tm) all that much, except as pure theater.

Yes, that sounds more like Theism, but of course the average person will interpret that word as meaning you believe in God and nothing more. ;) I appreciate the reply, though.

I would be/am simply a disciple of Jesus of Nazareth, of his original, pre-cross gospel of The Kingdom of Heaven.

I believe Jesus is "Christ", that is how I am Christ-ian, but Peter and Paul's new gospel about Jesus evolved away from the religion of Jesus.

Yes, but if you were not a follower of Jesus Christ, what would you be?

Yup. I mean I wasn't asking atheists what religion they would choose.

St. Paul seems to think we should all be hedonists, maybe like Roman Epicureans, if Christ is not risen.

There's not exactly a rush on the part of Christians to answer the OP's question, is there, even though it was aimed at them?

What is there to say on the matter, though?

A lot of people, myself included, can't really see themselves as anything but Christian.

I think that's the main reason, yes.

Now why, do you think, all the Atheists suppose we're dying to know which Asian cult or obscure philosophy they'd choose? :openmouth:

I don't know, I've always believed in God as my faith has evolved. I could speculate on such a sad state and wonder if I would adopt an anti God belief. I remember the shock that I had as a student of the Urantia Book when I read the personality profile of Judas. The UB contains the profiles of all the apostles, I most identified with Judas.
