If Jesus retuned, would you recognize him?

This thread is not on general apologetics. Please keep your posts centered on the topic.

If Jesus returned likely as he looked (i.e., as a brown, Middle Eastern man) performing much of his miraculous deeds, being honest with yourself, would you immediately embrace him or would you be highly skeptical? What would it take for you to be convinced of the truthfulness of such supernatural claims?

When Jesus returns, those of us who have already accepted Him will not be here at that time.

Oh,

So that's what you all are nit - picking at...^_^^_^

So I misspell Revelation with an "s", and suddenly it discredits my entire post?

Do you know how many people can't even pronounce the Book "Habakkuk"?

-The Lowest Servant
Nobody's discrediting your entire post. But when you post something like "Well, if you read this book....." like you're an expert on the book, you should at least be able to spell the name of the book you're allegedly an expert on.

Fair enough, fair enough,

But I never said I was an "Expert", I said anyone even remotely familiar with the Book of Revelation would know who to look for in response to TC. I know that's not exactly what I said, but that was what I was inferring...

The Jews knew who to look for, and they say it wasn't Jesus. Before you get to Revelation, perhaps you should look at the original prophecies in the Old Testament.

I was merely matching what seemed like a lighthearted jab with the same sort of pluck. Besides, I'm genuinely curious as to where he was heading with that post...

Ok, but I was quite shocked. Your view seems very tragic for this person, and you didn't seem very concerned for him.

Yea, can't account for them... perhaps they didn't love God? Maybe they were just Evil, but that's between them and God.

As for me, I believe without seeing, so I will have no doubt when He does appear.;)

My view? I only asked what all the "new revelations" were going to be. And actually, it's not a bad question, IMHO...

Let's say that one day, all of evolution was proven to be absolutely true. So much so, in fact, that every single person is convinced of it, and all religious people renounce their faith in their respective deities.

What would happen then??

Whilst my last post was facetious (for which I apologise) there was a slightly serious point. I was under the impression that Christians expected to witness the 2nd coming, and that it would coincide with the rapture, so was slightly surprised by the suggestion that a Christian did not expect to be there to witness it.

That day has already passed. It probably even came before we sequenced the genome, and when that happened an already watertight case was closed. It certainly did not lead to all religious people renouncing their faith; most find evolution to be entirely compatible with their beliefs.

I might have misread you, or something else might have happened. All I am saying, you think something tragic is destined for this person, yet you showed no concern about him, and even gloated in your perceived security. It was a shock to me. I do not share the belief and attitude that is necessary to be comfortable with this. It is not working for Christ's objectives either. I have told you, that's all. Oafman seems pretty convinced of his own sense of security too. I guess you might rather say I have the problem then, for being shocked!

I know we all take our beliefs very seriously, and I try to bear that in mind when I post on here. But this forum includes a lot of highly complex debate issues, sometimes they get a little heated (not that this has), and I don't see much harm in the occasional heckle as long as it's not a personal attack or otherwise malicious. It keeps things interesting. We're all (mostly) intelligent adults...challenge should be a good thing.

I know there are several schools of thought on the "end time" events. Some people think we're currently living in the Tribulation period, others think this is the Millennial reign of Christ. How I've always understood it is like this:
1. Rapture of the church.
2. 7 year Tribulation
3. Second advent
4. Millennial reign

So, when the second advent occurs, all of today's believers will have already been joined with Christ.

Believing without seeing is a good way to convince someone to believe in anything.

Ok, I reckon I understand better how this happened. I have not been to this area of the website much, and I have not considered an established relationship you probably have with Oafman, which might have given you a fair reason to have been jovial when I saw it inappropriate. Yes, I am sorry for doing that, it is clear that only I have found the offence in this.

Believing without seeing is a good way to convince someone to believe in anything.

I will simply post what stevevw posted in another Topic that I recently read as it covers your retort well:

"The Bible itself tells us what faith is.Hebrews 11:1 tells us that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. So biblical faith is not blind but is strongly warranted confidence. The phrase “hoped for” does not imply a mere wishful thinking as in “I sure hope the weather is nice next week.” Rather, the Greek word (ελπιζω) indicates a confident expectation: the kind of confidence we have when we have a good reason to believe something.[bless and do not curse]

Biblically, faith is having confidence in something you have not experienced with your senses. Biblical faith is not “blind”; it’s not the act of “believing without a reason.” Just the opposite; biblical faith is the act of believing in something unseen for which we do have a good reason.[bless and do not curse]

So what is the good reason?

The scriptures speak about it only cryptically. But Jesus says that just as when lightning strikes and lights up the sky so will be the coming of the Son of Man. In other words, obvious.

At the end of the age when Jesus returns it will be obvious to everyone what is happening.

That is if the Bible is correct about Jesus of Nazareth. If Jesus were to return again in the Christian sense (I.e the Bible and Tradition are correct about Jesus) I believe it would be obvious to both Christians and all others on the Earth
