To stop sinning and become holy so you can be with Him without all sin exposed which will make you want to hide in the shadow. That's what Sadhu Sundhar Singh saw. People just fled from Him to darkness because He was too holy and the Light exposed all their sin. You can get rid of sin when you accept His offer.

When someone is a Christian, do they stop sinning?

Actually, the context was to think of the reliance of an infant with their father. You are just derailing the thread to childlessness.

Is it likely that they would have portrayed what Jesus said and did accurately? It would be doubly tragic if they died for what they believed in and it was inaccurate or a farce whether they blatantly lied or were mis-led, would it not?

Well, according to many NT historians, the supporting evidence is not there to apply historical credibility to much of the NT, except smaller portions of the same.

In regards to people dying for causes; dying for a cause has little to do with the cause being true, only that one really believes it.

Could be why it is called faith and not fact.
