It is called the "HOSTAGE SYNDROME"![]()

Are you calling Jesus a liar? His teaching on hell is quite horrific.
And when people with those kind of authoratarian fearmongering tactics rise to power, life becomes horriffic....life becomes hell....
Jesus spoke of hell, and that is what He meant.
To get back on track...If Hell never existed---everyone ends up in Heaven---would it change your behavior in any way? Does the threat of Hell keep you from being a baddie?
Be honest now.![]()

GEHENNA:
The place where children were sacrificed to the god Moloch was originally in the "valley of the son of Hinnom," to the south of Jerusalem (Josh. xv. 8, passim; II Kings xxiii. 10; Jer. ii. 23; vii. 31-32; xix. 6, 13-14). For this reason the valley was deemed to be accursed, and "Gehenna" therefore soon became a figurative equivalent for "hell." Hell, like paradise, was created by God (Soṭah 22a); according to Gen. R. ix. 9, the words "very good" in Gen. i. 31 refer to hell; hence the latter must have been created on the sixth day. Yet opinions on this point vary. According to some sources, it was created on the second day; according to others, even before the world, only its fire being created on the second day (Gen. R. iv., end; Pes. 54a). The "fiery furnace" that Abraham saw (Gen. xv. 17, Hebr.) was Gehenna (Mek. xx. 18b, 71b; comp. Enoch, xcviii. 3, ciii. 8; Matt. xiii. 42, 50; 'Er. 19a, where the "fiery furnace" is also identified with the gate of Gehenna).
I do not believe in heaven nor hell, or the bible, or god, or any religion. Yet my standards of right and wrong surpass most people that I know. While they are spewing their racist jokes, I am disgusted... While they are thieving and cheating, I am offended. While they are trying to place their blame on others, I am giving them a piece of my mind ;3
Uh no, those are religious conservatives ( speaking about US only that is )
Agreed. This post is probably one of the most judgmental, prideful posts I have ever read at CF, and that's saying something.
Tear yourself away from the mirror for a moment to look at the way you treat people.

Uh no, those people are corrupt and I gather that most of those people that are corrupt in this government are probably on the right more than the left. Also, stop trying to place the blame on atheists, we are not evil. You paint your own enemies yet again.

The point is that the whole concept of the god in heaven who cannot wait to toss people into hell for the most trivial of things is really sad. The only thing which is even more sad is that the people who believe such things say they "love god". Do you love people who threaten to torture you for all eternity by burning you alive with fire and brimstone? To say you "love" that person would make you a [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] and god a sadist. I am sorry but I do not worship a sadist god. I believe that any god worthy of worship and love would be one of love and peace not "I am going to burn you a live if you keep lusting after your neighbors wife". A god who acted like that would be the enemy of mankind..not its savior. So the concept of hell as preached by some seems outlandish or if true a very good reason to oppose that god.
" Yet my standards of right and wrong surpass most people that I know."This guy was insulting atheists, you being an atheist are defending him? Is that not a bit odd? I think you are taking my words and twisting them to suit your own interest that I somehow think of myself as some great entity. I do not, I am merely a person.
Not really, could you explain why I shouldn't defend him and what me being an atheist has to do with it?This guy was insulting atheists, you being an atheist are defending him? Is that not a bit odd?
I'm taking your words at face value, if you don't like people calling your arrogant you might wish to do something about it.I think you are taking my words and twisting them to suit your own interest that I somehow think of myself as some great entity. I do not, I am merely a person. I however do not strife around the truth for the sake of someone else's ego =3
" Yet my standards of right and wrong surpass most people that I know."
Yep, that's not arrogant at all.
Oh yeah, I think you two are completely missing the point of my message with one minor line. The point of it is that people can have ethics without religion.
For me there is no hell! Also I do not believe in God yet; I have no problem controlling myself. Most European countries pay only lip service to religion and as experience has shown us it is the religious fundamentalists who cannot control themselves. The Bogey man died when we grew up.If there was no hell, people would have a much harder time controlling themselves. Religion would also have a hard time controlling people.
