Michael- That rug looks beautiful with all the color in your icons! If I visited you I'd be constantly wanting to straighten your icons!!!
The rug is going to look even better in my new icon room because I have hardwood floors in there (which I have yet to begin refinishing). I actually bought a second rug for the room last summer. I can't wait to see what the whole thing looks like when finished. And yes, the icons are really crooked in these pictures! LOL! :D

Michael- I have a question? Long ago I heard someone say that when an icon is being written that for every brushstroke a prayer must be said. Is that true?
I am not sure every single brustroke I make has a prayer attached to it, but I try very hard to pray the Jesus Prayer while writing/painting icons so there is alot of truth to that statement. There are many who believe the praying while writing the icon is what makes it holy and thus it does not need blessed by the priest. I belive the praying while writing the icon does much to make the icon holy, but considering I am just a humble man and not worthy of any gift God has given me I insist on having every icon I write blessed during Divine Liturgy as as thank you to God for what he has done for me.

For practical reasons while painting/writing icons I shorten the Jesus prayer to "Lord, Have mercy, " which works well into making one brush stroke with the word "Lord" and then the next "have mercy" and on and on...

OK, here goes. This is the wall in my living room. It is in a constant state of flux as it is where all the icons that I paint go that are not commissions or icons for my icon corner.

This is the icon corner in my room. About half of these are icons that I painted, while the other half were painted by my dad twenty some years ago. There is also one print. I am trying to flesh out this icon corner so that it has the patron saints of all my family members, but it's taking longer than expected. It does not face east, but despite there being four walls in my bedroom, I can't seem to figure out a way to get it facing east. Also the arrangement is a little haphazard, but there is a logic to it all. Once the icons of all the patron saints are done, it should look better.

No. As an iconographer, I feel a strong devotion to him because of his brilliant writing in defense of icons. I had painted this icon a few times on a smaller scale, and wanted to paint one for myself, but my eyes aren't as good as they used to be so I painted it larger.

Yeah, I am a huge fan of him, of St. Theodore Studite and of St. Andrei Rublev as well.

I have a decent size icon of St. Andrei, but have never painted St. Theodore. I also want to paint St. Lazarus the iconographer sometime soon
I have done 2 or 3 of St. Andrei, none of St. Theodore. There is a Russian Metropolitan who was an iconographer as well, I think it was Peter, I want do to his and St. Alypi's as well.

Here is our icon corner. We have since added an icon of St. James to St. Seraphim's right.

It is currently in the living room but when we move, I want to put it in the spare room so we can pray more privately. I hope to get a lot more icons and spread them all through the house. I want to make a small prayer corner in the living room but the primary in the spare room.
