• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I think there's something wrong with me.

I eat lots of beans (bean soup and chili) but I have no 'gas' problem at all. Normal people are supposed to experience flatulence after eating beans. What is wrong with me?

It turns out that really doesn't happen much at all, especially after eating beans a lot for more than two days (first claim, second claim).

You're lucky. Seeing a can of beans on a shelf gives me gas. Reading your post and I'm tooting now.

Beans are complex carbs. It is essential to chew them thoroughly, because the initial breakdown into simpler sugars occurs only in the mouth, via saliva. If you chew all starches thoroughly you are giving your digestion a major good start.

Then, after eating beans for a while, you should have populated the gut with the flora that can digest them properly. If you're not having stool consistency issues or gas, and haven't taken antibiotics lately, you probably are doing well.

Great comments folks. I know all that stuff as well. Feeding gut bacteria the same foods increases their numbers and thus digestion efficiency. Just checking on the general knowledge. Not overeating and eating pretty much the same foods results in great digestion which extracts the most nutrients from foods, and (can) result in virtually odorless stools. Good health to all!

That could be true, or else there's something wrong with me. If I even eat a few beans or refried beans, I can blow the covers off the bed.

As long as it doesn't peel the wallpaper off the walls you're ok. ^_^

King Tootuncommon Syndrome. It was uncommon for him to "toot", unlike some of his predecessors in the turd dynasty of Egypt. :openmouth:
