• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Dear Friends,

You have all been a great help to me on my spiritual jouney and many have provided off-line advice...thanks so much. I'm ready, willing and able now to attend my first 'reformed' service..remember I'm the guilt ridden cradle catholic with his feet stuck in the mud....I just discovered that the two closest Reformed Churches are affiliated with the RCA....any comments, observations or reflections..should I risk it? The closest Presbyterian Church is affiliated witht the PCUSA...suffice it to say, I am probably overthinking the whole thing and not trusting ther Lord enough but any last minute advice you could give would be appreciated.

Warmest Regards,
Henry

The Reformed Church in America (RCA) is a theologically liberal, Protestant Christian denomination. It became an autonomous American organization in 1776 and currently has approximately 304,000 members with 724 churches in the United States. Source: http://www.fact.hartsem.edu/denom/denom_rca.htm

Robert Schuller is a minister of in this denomination and he is quoted as saying Jesus Christ is not the only way to heaven.

I visited a RCA church a few years ago with my family, unknowingly, and we were embarrased from the moment we walked in until we left. It was so pro-homosexual, feminist and anti-Scriptural that we were embarrased to even be associated with and listening to these views even for an hour.

We still laugh about our mistake today.

Now on the other hand, there is a USA church down the street from us who has spoken out against the strong liberal views of the USA church and is threatening to leave the denomination. I attended it and it was just OK.

There was still a lot of "growing" to be done even though they were fighting the gross errors of USA.

But I would strongly recommend you check this church out:

Messiah's Congregation
Steve M. Schlissel, Minister

The address of the church is: 2635 East 23rd Street (between Voorhies Avenue and Avenue Z)

Mailing Address:

1600 Sheepshead Bay Road Suite 3
Brooklyn, NY 11235

718-769-9272

Steve M. Schlissel is a strong seasoned and well informed pastor and teacher. He is solidly reformed and has a great personality. He is fun to listen to and read. He is well published and sorta famous in the "reformed world." I would love to be able to attend his church! I don't agree with him on all issues but hey, that's true for just about everyone, right?

Anyway, you would be wise to attend this church for awhile and then get your bearings from there about what other "good" reformed churches are in your area. Don't forget about the reformed baptist churches either.

Here are the reformed churches within 60 miles of area code 10469. These came from sermon audio, which is an absolutely awesome reformed site for this type of info and great sermons and articles, it's site is http://www.sermonaudio.com/

Cal,

Thanks for that advice. I think the OPC sounds more to my liking. I found one which is not to far from me in Mt. Vernon NY (lower Westchester County). I may give that one a try. Thanks for your kind words and support. It is appreciated.

BTW I am listening to sermon audio right now!

Warm Regards,
Henry
