• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I think I have it but how do I go about getting help?

Ok, I am 99% sure I have OCD, not so much the ritual one though.
As I am this way, and it is such a mental strain thing, I have decided help is my only option.
But I am terrified of telling anyone about this. I don't really want to tell anyone except a psychologist who actually understands what it's all about, as I feel that anyone else would just think I am a nutter.
Is it just a case of asking for an appointment?

Thanks, sorry if this has been done before.

I know this whole thing is kind of scary when one is trying to decide what to do for help.

Is your family situation a good one? If not, start with the school counselor, or coach, or a relative you can trust...or maybe your pastor. Friends your age might be sympathetic, but they can't really get you to the right kind of help.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, there is no reason for you to go this alone. God places many people, and avenues, in which you can get help.

We all feel kind of nutty :) , but don't let that stop you from getting help. I'm sure glad I did, as I've been able to overcome about 98% of my OCD.

I had no idea I even had OCD until I went to a counselor about 2 years ago and she said after about 5 minutes "oh you have pure O ocd." It made me feel not so crazy to hear this. She had me think back to how my mind has always worked and showed me the symptoms even from chilhood. She reassured me that the intrusive thoughts make no sense no matter what, whether they are violent, sexual or religious. She reminded me that to try to make sense of them would just make them worse and me more anxious. So even though this week I have had some doozies I am trying to just let them go as much as I can...Having someone "in the biz" tell me that made me feel more normal. So I think if you go to a counselor they can reassure you....she assured me that I am NOT crazy and I cling to that when I FEEL crazy....
