8.88 per year or so - you can find 'cheaper' out there but I like namecheaps control panels.. godaddy's were disgusting

http://www.hostway.com/ - domain names for $6.00. I've only ever had one problem with them, and that is that you have to point the domain to a nameserver - you can't point it directly to an IP address.

You haven't specified what you are using it for.....at $4.95 a month I find mine cheep and it's a Christian owned company......

How about free? Well it's not a top-level domain name but it sure looks like one. Check http://www.freedomain.co.nr/ if that will work for you. You can only have like 4 or 5 of them but you can point them anyplace, even your own home server that changes IP's all the time. But if you must have a top level to sing up with your host then I dont think this will work for them but most hosts don't require that you use a top level name.

Doteasy.com is free hosting for purchase of a domain name, but the cost of the domain is $25 a year there. Can't beat the free hosting plan, though.

You may not find 'cheaper'. Most are comparable. I use 'godaddy' and find them very dependable and reasonable for the last 10 years. All the best. Let me know if you need help with hosting as well.
