I got my feeling hurt about a touchy, hot button issue.

It would seem to me:

At the end of the day, it starts with your identity crisis.

You consider yourself wrongly and allow others to reinforce your incorrect identification.

As others have stated, your proper identity is "child of God, co-heir with Christ". If we don't start there, we all get quickly sunk in the quagmire of who we are and where we belong.

Sure, I have some quick identifiers for the world - white, Canadian, goofy. But what's important is that I know who I am - which is who God says I am. Then the other labels don't matter and I'm free to love and accept those who only see what their eyes see.

Your drawing your security from the opinions of the humans. Become secure (choose to believe) His opinions, and theirs will matter less and less.

It's a little challenging to change that mindset, but completely worthwhile.

(All that said, I could be completely wrong about you and may have misread your entire post)

I just came across this post, so forgive me for being late to the party. :)

God gave us the ability to see. With that, comes good and bad. Meaning, we can see the glorious wonders of the world we live in, but our eyes can also be a tool for the deception that dwells in our hearts. It's not our faults. We're born this way and it takes the power of God to change our hearts.

What if we didn't have eyes? I'm sure humans would find some other means to stereotype because everything stems from the heart.

My advice brother is to be yourself, who God created you to be. If people can't handle that, it's not your fight. Just smile, nod and display your love for others and again, if that doesn't win them over (which in most cases love will) then give it to God to handle. Pray about it, but don't let it get you down. Sometimes we have to realize we'll never get everyone to agree with our lifestyle, even family members.

I'm a white male and I like all kinds of music! One of my best friends years ago was a black male. We pumped iron/worked together and over the years life happened and we just went our own ways. But I'll never forget those good times we had at the gym and working together. Our color never mattered and we really never mentioned it because it wasn't anything to mention. We were human beings and our eyes never saw color, only a good friend.

Your hot button is a reaction button only you can control though. Imagine handing the button over to God when someone presses it in a negative way and smile knowing He's got this.

Peace my friend.
