City Council to Hold Hearings on Racist Facebook Posts From Philly Police
City councilmembers unanimously passed a resolution Thursday that will allow public hearings on the investigation of thousands of racist and violent Facebook posts from Philadelphia police officers.

"The plan is that once the police department completes their investigation that we're going to have a conversation regarding this issue and what action steps we can take moving forward," City councilman Derek Green told NBC10.

On June 1, the Plain View Project, a watchdog organization, released a database covering two years' worth of more than 3,000 racist, demeaning and discriminatory Facebook posts from both current and former police officers in eight U.S. cities, including Philadelphia.

Oh how I miss Philly, I love that city. But perhaps there's too much alarm. Racist police officers are just holding an unpopular view, it's not like their views affect their ability to police. When we consider that many cases of police misconduct are not investigated properly (as seen across the country in DOJ reports on various police departments), finding a third of the police making racist statements have had civil rights complaints with settlements/verdicts for the plaintiffs demonstrates clearly, it's not just another view and it a danger for our citizens.

If you have been found to have violated someone's civil rights and it can be shown it was racially motivated you should be fired with no second chances.

Racist Facebook posts put Twin Falls Police on defensive
Police departments around the country were reeling last month after a study exposed racist social media posts from officers in eight departments, including Twin Falls.

But police and other public officials here say they don’t know why the report lumped Twin Falls in with the other cities since only nine social media posts from Twin Falls were included in the database of racist posts and six of them turned out to be from someone who wasn’t a police officer.

White cops don't seem to do a great job in African-American neighborhoods. Their actions are generally decried as either excessive, violent, cruel, or heavy handed.

Would the response be, then, to have African-American cops from those neighborhoods, who better understand the people, challenges, and culture of those areas, doing the policing?
“Separate but equal”?
Ain’t gonna happen, again.

Two St. Louis officers fired for controversial Facebook posts
Two St. Louis police officers were fired recently for social media posts that a watchdog group determined were racist, violent in nature or anti-Muslim, the officers’ attorney said Monday.

Sgt. Ronald Hasty and Detective Thomas Mabrey were fired for "conduct unbecoming of an officer" because of content posted to Facebook, attorney Brian Millikan said.

Hasty and Mabrey were among 22 active St. Louis officers connected to social media posts considered racist, violent or prejudiced in a June study by the Philadelphia-based watchdog group The Plain View Project.

Only 2 out of 22? o_O

Would predominantly Black neighborhoods be better, safer places if no White police ever showed up in response to anything? Would the folks in these neighborhoods ultimately be happier to have no White cops show up at all, rather than have a White cop show up who might use arguably excessive force, pull a trigger and injure or kill someone, make a wrong judgement call, or reach for his weapon?

This is a serious question. Or is the solution to have African-American men policing their own neighborhoods? Get young, bright, capable, physically fit, discerning young people from that neighborhood police it, instead of White guys from outside the community?

Hmmm. Fox...henhouse?

It’s been known for a while that racist supremacist organizations have been encouraging their supporters to join the police and the military. That’s why so many soldiers are getting arrested in the last few years . Others get wind of their plans or the FBI is on to them . A lot of these are Christian science deniers as well
