We are aware of our limitations, and live within those limits.
I'm an engineer and an inventor.
But even in this field, the collective human programming exerts a very strong influence on the engineers and scientists themselves.
It limits their creativity to very little advances. Afraid to take big leaps. The great fear of ridicule or even losing their career. The fear of truly ground-breaking ideas. That's our programming.
We do not care about the dangers that threaten humanity as long we don't see it.....
This is a typical animal response. Human consciousness is even doubtful.
That's programming.
You don't believe you can get over the physical limitations of the human body because you live by that programming.
Live long enough in that programming and that limitation becomes real.
Most people don't realize they live in a cage. A cage for the mind. Imprison the mind and you imprison the body as well.
'None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free'
- Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
You seem to be confusing choice with awareness. Were you aware of that?
I'm sure what self-awareness is.
Even the Bible mentions specifically that many people lack self-awareness.
Revelation 3:17
You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.
The person in Revelation 3:17 lacks self awareness because he or she failed to realize they are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.
We can overcome some of our limitations. We can't fly, so we build airplanes.
We are aware of our limitations, and live within those limits. Those limits also govern our choices. However, we have many choices.
Then why did you prattle on about "choice" with nary a mention of self-awareness? Sloppy thinking;sloppy writing; or both.
That's exactly what I said.
I'm not insulting timewerx. I'm vigorously drawing his attention to logical inconsistencies in his OP. I would welcome the same critique of my posts, especially were they accurate. Can we even have a civilized discussion without insulting one another?
It is perfectly possible to wholly self-aware and still make those same choices. You failed to demonstrate, or even attempt to demonstrate that such was not the case.If you lack self awareness, you'll be making the same limited choices that everyone makes.
Go to school, get a career, buy a house, get married, have kids, have hobbies, weekend routines, have grandkids, retire, and finally die.
Because you live under the same programming that everyone does.
Yet scripture tells us that we can do all things through Christ
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
so believing with your head and not with your heart creates these limitations. We believe with head and heart. We doubt with head and heart. Peter walked on the water until he began to doubt (limitations).
Go to school, get a career, buy a house, get married, have kids, have hobbies, weekend routines, have grandkids, retire, and finally die.
OK...what do you mean by "spiritually profitable?"We can do all spiritually profitable things through faith.

You have given a picture of what not being self-aware looks like. I think it would help if you gave the contrary. What does being self-aware look like in terms of choices that are made?

I think we all know who HE is.
Less well known examples, are two disciples of Christ - The Beloved Disciple and Mary - they didn't make the same programmed choices as the others did.
Well known prophets of God in the Bible also are self-aware and "conscious" and some of them do live as hermits.
Vincent Van Gogh, the artist is also one.
They are far few and between.
Done properly these things make for a dream life.
