  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi, Im from the UK and saw a TV programme recently about the Hutterites called, "How to Get to Heaven with the Hutterites". Im a seeking to find a Christian community, do the Hutterites believe you get to heaven through good works or through Christ alone?
I would liken it to this: Christ is the way to heaven, but you have to walk on that way to get there.

I saw the documentary and the lifestyle is appealing.
Basically Christian communism like the leader of the colony said.
The one thing that seems a bit scary is that if you want to leave, you would be starting with two empty hands. I thought all the people shown were very sympathetic, but trust the beeb to make an issue about feminism and the one person who was not happy.

The programme showed more than one person unhappy with the community, I can fully understand how it is difficult for the children to accept the community lifestyle. I think its fair comment for the beeb to make about the roles of the women. While I do find community life appealing I did find some of the hutterite practises strange, like men and women eating separately, that is more cultural than biblical. Im seeking a community that is closer to biblical lifestyle than cultural lifestyle.

That is standard BBC media method, the journalists are taught to be logical, to present the positive, then the negative and then to sum up with a sort of legalistic dryness. As if there is some standard for everything that cannot quite be defined but that everybody knows about, when they hear it.
