  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Computer science (genetic algorithms)

I don't know if this one counts or not. Genetic algorithms were designed to imitate the behavior of biology. So is that really just an extension of biology or is it it's own thing? It's very telling however that it's possible to take an observed biological process, and apply it successfully to computer engineering. So maybe it belongs on the list just because it reinforces biology.

I'd keep it because it shows that the processes in the theory of evolution can yield complexity.

The question is, how many modern scientific disciplines must be currently wrong in order to rationize a literal interpretation of scripture with reality. Tell us AVET, why are so many disciplines wrong??
An even better question would be why so many scientific disciplines are wrong when it comes to evolution yet work perfectly in every other aspect.

Biogeography added. Thanks, Vene!

What? You don't have Chemistry? C'mon people!

Add fluid dynamics (for their wacky ideas on stratification and hydrolic sorting)

Orbital Mechanics (how does water stay above the atmosphere in a canopy without falling?)

Structural mechanics (a 300+ long wooden boat??)

Epidemeology (two of each kind and they have all the diseases for that kind?)

I'd add zoology as a whole, or perhaps entomology (4-legged locusts), ichthyology (whale= fish; no difference in sweet- and salt-water dwelling species), herpetology (the star of the show - a talking snake), theriology (a talking donkey; ruminating rabbits), and perhaps ornithology (I'm in doubt as to under what branch does the "bats = fowl" fall). The list above isn't exhaustive, merely exemplifying.

Okay, I'll bite... How can computer science be included in this list?

It's a branch of mathematics that would have trouble tracing any of its roots back before Charles Babbage (Early 19th century). How are you going to use that to specifically disprove a young earth?

How many different areas of scientific study needs to be wrong in order for YEC creationism to be right?

I'll update here...

Biology
Physics
Anthropology
Geology
Paleontology
Biochemistry
Computer Science
Cosmology
Astrophysics
Quantum Mechanics
Agronomy
Pharmacology
Nuclear Physics
Astronomy
Climatology
Archeology
Linguistics
Genetics
Biogeography
I'd go with all. Some are nearly all wrong, and some are partially right, but partially too limited in scope to be right where it matters.

Seconded.

I think you should re-evaluate this line of thinking.

First, Genetic Algorithms do not yield complexity. GA is a search/optimization heuristic. Most likely you are thinking of Genetic Programming, which can get quite complicated results.

Second, neither GA nor GP can speciate - a key step in evolution.

Third, there is no minimum sufficiency for reproduction in GA or GP. Your least fit individual will generally never breed but many other really poorly fit individuals often will. (This depends on your selection mechanism, but standard 3-way tournament selection used to maintain genetic diversity only gaurantees that the worst individual in the entire population will never breed)

But more to the point, I don't see how something inspired by observations in biology could be used to disprove young earth creationism. There's a post-hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy in there (or maybe something else)

Great idea, TheBear. I have been meaning to put a list like this together for months but I've been too lazy/apathetic lately. I say add Chaos Theory to the list too. It's a bit of a stretch, but do it for Eris's sake!

If you want to get more specific in the Biology category there is: Bioinformatics, Cladistics, Ethology, Molecular Biology, Morphology, Phylogenetics, and Taxonomy.

There you go again.

Avoiding presenting evidence or challenging creationism on evidence but instead trying to overwhealm with authority.
How can you outauthority the bible to those who believe the bible? Whats your logic?

None of these things owes anything to TOE.
Okay
Show how one of these does?! Can't be hard eh?
Pick one of the more strange ones you got there.
Say biogeography.
this claims are a waste of intellectual attention.
Get in the arena with us creationists and stop yelling from the stands.
Make a point and stand until someone knocks you off.
