I've read through cover-to-cover a few times, ever since I started when I was about 10 or so.That year I just suddently got the desire for God's Word and spent many hours a day just curled up on the couch reading.

These days, I do a lot more of "surfing the Bible" in the way people surf the net, following the references :) Even so, I wish I would be able to spend more time in the Word.

"So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ." - Romans 10:17

The thing I find fascinating is how many churches don't inspire or encourage their congregation to read it. It's like how some teachers don't expect you to do well, so you have no desire to do well. I don't get that kind of attitude. The Bible isn't commonly referred to as "God's instruction manual" for nothing.

Do you know why the K.J.V. sounds so much like Shakespeare? Because he was one of the translators.

Anyway...advise to anyone who's trying to get through it for the first time. A Bible reading schedule helps a lot. Church bookstores usually have these for free. Christian book stores might charge a dollar. And don't become discouraged if you try to read a book that isn't as easy to get through as others. Just keep plugging along. It's also a really good idea to pray before reading.

My favorite book is Proverbs. It's what I call "God's advise column". Proverbs has 31 chapters. So you can read one a day. It basically tells you how to be a good Christian. ;)

I am reading the bible from beginning to end. So far I have read the first 24 chapters of Genesis. :) I do a lot of reading bits here and there but I think I'll get a better understanding if I read each and every book all the way through.

I am reading it for the first time, but I'm not yet done. I really need to set up some sort of schedule - I seem to jump here and there, and a couple books I've read several times, while others I've not even touched. In my church bulletin it has scripture readings for each day of the week. I assume this is to get through the Bible in one year. I should adhere to this, then read additional passages if I feel a need to read a certain scripture. After all, you can't read the Bible too much, right?
