• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Here is a compilation of the claims from creationist and ID'ers that evolution is dead and/or dying in the mainstream science community. These folks seem to have lots in common woth the "end of the world is nigh" crowd.

Here are a couple nails for the coffin. Good riddance. ;)

"Evolutionists hail natural selection as if it were a creative goddess, but the reality (which they invariably concede when pressed) is that selection on its own always gets rid of information, never the opposite. To have a way to add information, the ‘only game in town’ for evolution’s true believers is genetic copying mistakes or accidents, i.e. random mutations (which can then be ‘filtered’ by selection).

However, the problem is that if mutations were capable of adding the information required, we should see hundreds of examples all around us, considering that there are many thousands of mutations happening continually. But whenever we study mutations, they invariably turn out to have lost or degraded the information."

"The science of twenty or thirty years ago was in high glee at the thought of having almost proved the theory of biological evolution. Today, for every careful, candid inquirer, these hopes are crushed; and with weary, reluctant sadness does modern biology now confess that the Church has probably been right all the time" - George McCready Price, quoted in J. E. Conant’s The Church The Schools And Evolution (1922), p.18

The American Association for the Advancement of Science felt forced to formally deny such a claim . They issued a report which says:

Since it has been asserted that there is not a fact in the universe in support of this theory, that it is a "mere guess" which leading scientists are now abandoning, and that even the American Association for the Advancement of Science at its last meeting in Toronto, Canada, approved this revolt against evolution, and

Inasmuch as such statements have been given wide publicity through the press and are misleading public opinion on this subject, therefore,

The Council of the American Association for the Advancement of Science has thought it advisable to take formal steps upon this matter, in order that there may be no ground for misunderstanding of the attitude of this Association, which is one of the largest scientific bodies in the world, with a membership of more than 11,000 persons, including the American authorities in all branches of science. The following statements represent the position of the Council with regard to the theory of evolution.

The Council of the Association affirms that, so far as the scientific evidences of evolution of plants and animals and man are concerned, there is no ground whatever for the assertion that these evidences constitute a "mere guess." No scientific generalization is more strongly supported by thoroughly tested evidences than is that of organic evolution." http://archives.aaas.org/docs/resolutions.php?doc_id=156

:)

At least they had better command of the English language back then. The funny part is AAAS is still having the reissue this every few years, when eighty years of research and attacks by creationists later the ToE is better supported than ever. :(

It is a fairy tale from the prince of darkness (the god of this world)!

He would like nothing more for people to believe in anything but the truth!

You have eyes... but canot see
You have ears... but do not hear

If you would want everyone to know the truth then why don't you. The truth is there is evidence backing up evolution.

YAY more i'm right, and your wrong. :(

Chuck -

here is the cliff notes version for those of you to lazy to read the link.

*snip*

I read it.

The "foolishness" to which I referred in my post, was Christian foolishness.

I certainly wasn't taking a shot at the evolutionists.

I'm sorry but I'm amused at your way of thinking and don't undertand why anyone would believe in such a fairy tale and am honestly curious to the evidence suporting your view!

Why don't you read the dang threads I hate getting the links for evidence just to make you say it's not good enough.

You are funny man. You are saying evolution is a fary tale, and yet you believe in god which has no evidence, nothing backing up the bible or anything. Talking snakes, etc..

But I don't care what you say about evolution or whatever. You probably think evolution is only for atheist, but christians believe it also.

Warrior - let's just say that even if we don't agree with the evolutionists, we're hardly in a position to prove them wrong.

I'm a Christian; my areas of expertise are history, philosophy and religion.

Science is not my forte (though I have plenty of Christian friends for whom it is), and consequently, I'd be a complete pushover for an evolutionist, because (a) I just don't know enough about his position to identify any possible gaps or flaws, and (b) I just don't have the requisite knowledge to refute his arguments.

Disagree with them by all means; just don't patronise them.

I believe in God because...
Faith is the SUBSTANCE of things hoped for! It's the EVIDENCE of things not seen!

To me and other christians.. it is total TRUTH!

Only God can open your eyes to see the truth and I know that He did start something in you awhile back and believe it that He will continue it!

You have already at one time been enlightened by God and He will by His Spirit complete what he began in you!

Seesaw, He will reveal himself to you sometime soon..Seek Him out and you WILL FIND HIM.....You experienced a form of religion in the past but now God desires you to experience the realness of who He really is and get to KNOW HIM!

Hear the word of the Lord!

I have been a christian already. I am not going back. There was no truth there for me. NO disrespect.
