  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How is one to understand this passage?

We have free will. The Blessed Theotokos said YES to God. She could've said NO. She said YES. Did God already know she would? Absolutely.

and not only that, but even though He knew she would have said yes no matter what, God still waited for her consent.

Extremely good. He really knows how to baptize psychology into the mind of the Church. Here’s, the table of contents and my favorite section from it:

There were areas that stuck out to me! Super helpful. However, the only part I didn’t understand was the humility being “concrete.” What do you think about that and what he may be trying to express there?

indeed, might need to chew on that.
Same here. I wonder if the concrete is our acceptance of ourselves as sinners in vulnerability instead of trying to hide things in shame/guilt. But, I could be wrong.

I read this last night and have been pondering it. It seemed to go along with this thread and was wondering what y’all’s thoughts were on it? It seems that worry should be eradicated regarding spouses if one is to accept this passage as the truth and one should just focus on prayer and being open to God’s gifts along the path of this life as we grow closer to Him. Trust is a hard virtue to develop…

true, but it also says to talk to qualified people who can help keep our eyes open.

because we’re fallen and need each other.
Oh, I agree. After re-reading it I see that he is talking about within a marriage for that portion and not necessarily for guidance before.

Nevertheless, the view of others before, is well taken into account. Trust me on this, lol! Many times I wished I had listened. But God had his own plans! and I had a lot to learn.
