Since the NIH did not fund any such experiment, I assume you have a reason for bringing all this up?
How did the NIH NOT fund such experiment?
Part of a $375,800 National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant was sent to a Tunisian lab “to drug beagles and lock their heads in mesh cages filled with hungry sand flies so that the insects could eat them alive.”

Oh, come on. You're more sophisticated than that.
The little bit of interaction I have had with this individual taught me it is not about sophistication. It is about intellectual honesty vs the willingness to gaslight.

So the cult of Fauci now plainly admits that Fauci can torture animals in the name of science, it's A-Ok.
Were you under the impression animal testing is something new or that Fauci just does it for sick kicks?

I honestly find it fascinating how people can be so outraged over some beagles being tested on for medical science while at the same time we happily kill over 9 billion chickens every year (most of them confined and forced into horrible living conditions) and no one bats an eye.

The selective outrage over Dr Fauci is not convincing.

Most non-vegetarians are aware that the animals they consume are raised in less than ideal conditions, as in overpacked pens. However, most non-vegetarians do not condone the senseless torture of those animals.

"some beagles being tested on for medical science" sounds so innocuous, until you realize that these experiments had beagles with their heads inside a mesh net, allowing for sand flies to bite them. And some other dog experiments involved the removal of vocal chords in dogs so that their cries do not disturb the scientists. I don't think most people are okay with that, even if they are not vegetarians.

And we cannot give carte blanche to science to do whatever it wants to animals in the name of saving humans. That is why animal rights organizations exist.

Sounds like a great idea (from the begining of this year). Only close to 800,000 dead so far so hey, less restrictions would have meant...well, certainly not a reduction of that figure. It would be bound to have gone up. So...not really sure of the reason why you'd want to do it.

Let's face it, nobody wants restrictions to the way we live our lives. But down here in Australia we pulled together, accepted what needed to be done and we had a tiny fraction of the deaths that you guys have had. The proof, as they say, is in the pudding.

Now we're getting back to normal. Daughter is picking us up in an hour and the whole family is meeting at a local pub for the Melbourne Cup (our version of the Kentucky Derby). We're through it. And we did exactly what Kulldorff recommended we shouldn't have done (note the past tense - his ideas about what to do are over a year old). So the place will be packed. We'll be vaccinated as will everyone else there (if you ain't then you can watch us enjoying ourselves through the window).

His ideas wouldn't have worked a year ago. They're irrelevant for most of us now.
People in Florida are doing exactly the kinds of things you are doing today, and with no restrictions.

He was not involved with any horrible Beagle study. This is a right-wing lie.
False.

"The documents outline both the proposed study design as well as the actual results of the study, the latter of which resulted in 40 beagles between the ages of 8 and 9 months being administered oral and subcutaneous (under the skin) doses of an unnamed HIV therapeutic between September 2018 and October 2019.

It is true that all dogs were euthanized following the study and their organs were analyzed for potential toxicity from the drugs.

It is also true that the dogs vocal cords were “cut out.” In an statement emailed to MedPage Today, NIAID told the publication that the contract for “preclinical pharmacology and toxicology services” was conducted “as required in animal models by the FDA, in compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) guidelines and in a facility accredited by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) or its equivalent.”

According to the government fiduciary site USA Spending, a $1.1 million grant was awarded to the organization by DHHS on behalf of the NIAID. The study was listed to begin July 15, 2020, and wrap up by Dec. 24, 2021, and included testing on small animals for therapeutics to treat HIV as well as Hepatitis B and C viruses.

While at least some of the funding was provided by NIAID, it is still unclear whether Fauci personally signed off on approving the research.

Who is the head of NIAID, the one in charge?:

Anthony S. Fauci, M.D., NIAID Director
Dr. Fauci was appointed Director of NIAID in 1984.

The buck stops there.

No he has not ALWAYS said that.
In fact, in the beginning of the pandemic, he said wearing masks were not doing anything.
Because in the beginning of the pandemic there were around 15 people in USA with the disease.
330 million people would not have benefited from wearing the masks.

Who has prospered compliments of the pandemic? What changes to society and the business environment have been made compliments of the build back better movement running in tandem with the pandemic (changes that otherwise would not have happened). What is the purpose of controlling the narrative, which is Fauci's job, in relation to these events.

People in Florida are doing exactly the kinds of things you are doing today, and with no restrictions.

'Australia's population of 26 million is comparable to Florida's 22 million, but when you consider the figures around COVID-19, the numbers are starkly different. Currently, Australia's daily COVID-19 cases are being measured in the hundreds, but last week Florida recorded more than 150,000 cases.

The total number of deaths in Australia is still less than 1,000. Florida has now passed 41,000, by some reports.' Australia and Florida have a similar population size but their COVID-19 policies are vastly different

Guess where I'd prefer to be.

This is the reason you choose to believe.

And this is the reason Fauci himself gave when asked why we were told in the beginning to not wear masks: check out his answer at the 1:35 mark, which is quite different from the one you believe.

March 2020, Fauci's own words on wearing masks:

“There’s no reason to be walking around with a mask. When you’re in the middle of an outbreak, wearing a mask might make people feel a little bit better and it might even block a droplet, but it’s not providing the perfect protection that people think that it is. And, often, there are unintended consequences — people keep fiddling with the mask and they keep touching their face.”

And what people in those places that have been under prolonged lockdowns don't realize is that the minute they start opening up a little and get a little more freedom, Covid will start surging, which will trigger the same alarm call to go back into lockdown. At this rate, they will probably live a life of lockdown for the next 10 years, or until the population revolts and says enough is enough, whichever comes first.

Not if enough people get vaccinated. Once the viral reproduction rate falls below 1.0, the virus will not surge. But I do think that broad-based lockdowns themselves are not necessary if other accommodations can be made. It has been especially harmful to children to miss a year of in-person schooling. Again, the solution is vaccination.

Pfizer has started pushing a pill now.
If it works, it will keep people from dying, provided they get the pill within 3 days of symptoms - symptoms that can appear to be a lot like a bad cold.

On the other hand, we are keeping measles contained through vaccination. We could do the same with covid.

That was a big part of it as well.
Perhaps the main part. They wanted to save masks for healthcare people at the front line.
But also because masks for healthy people weren't as important at that time.
Masks are for stopping spreading it to others and at that time, very few people had the disease.

Pragmatism would say that Fauci made the correct call at that time.

Sure once it becomes effective and doesn't require constant tinkering. 15 billion made just on boosters in the US alone if they become mandated.
Is there a problem with that, considering that we already lost 3.94 trillion dollars in global GDP because of the pandemic? Seems like a good deal.

The system is set up so no one at the top end loses anything. Meanwhile the tax payer keeps subsidizing the wages of the workers at some of the biggest profit makers who give nothing back. If someone defends the system then they are profiting and don't want to see change. Building back better is not for the people but for the elite. Look at how rich some are going to get with this trillion dollar bill passed while the average person now has to start paying for it and in effect will be paying their own wages from jobs created while the profiteers remain unscathed. But people seem to think it is a good deal.
