No it tells us what we need to know.

Far from it.
Excellent. And what we need to know, doesn't include how long the earth was formless and empty before God made it in 6 days,

And thus, quite simply, the Bible doesn't claim the earth to be 6,000 years old.

Genesis 1:1-2 NRSVUE
[1] When God began to create the heavens and the earth, [2] the earth was complete chaos, and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.

As it turns out, it is actually YECs that do not believe what the Bible says.

However, if I lived 3,000 years ago, I might wonder such a thing (they didn't know about gravity back then).

Do you think that God didn't know about gravity ? o_O

Moses didn't. And Moses is the inspired author of Genesis. Unless you thing God speaks in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. And that the Bible just fell out of the sky like magic.

Correct as God states he actually made the earth in six days.
Yes, 6 days, after God began creating it from its pre existing formless and empty state.

Genesis 1:1-2 NRSVUE
[1] When God began to create the heavens and the earth, [2] the earth was complete chaos, and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.

Don't be daft, do you think the ancient ones didn't know the difference between falling or staying put ?
Thats not the theory of general relativity. They didn't know that people upside down wouldn't fall off of the earth (nor would they have known if such people would have even existed).

No no. He made the earth in 6 days.

Genesis 1:1-2 NRSVUE
[1] When God began to create the heavens and the earth, [2] the earth was complete chaos, and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.

But the Bible doesn't say how long the earth was formless and empty before he began making it in 6 days.

Are you new around here?
A person doesn't have to be new round here to have different beliefs to you concerning origins. There are people here who certainly do believe that God's creation took 6 literal days, and included the imposing of order on what was formless and empty. You don't agree with that, but that doesn't mean that those who do must be new to the forums.

A person does have to be new if they weren't anticipating my response. We've been covering this topic for months, if not years at this point.

I know that you wouldn't have asked me that question without knowing exactly what I would have said in response.

Nobody should even be asking such questions anymore. People should know that the Bible can be understood and interpreted to include an ancient earth. And that's just a fact of the Hebrew, even if some choose to interpret it otherwise.

The deluge drowned the flat earth and all that was on it, how could the water have flooded a ball ? Impossible .........
It would be impossible if you don't think water has weight, which causes it (and us, incidentally) to stay on the earth and not to be flung off into space. (I'm deliberately avoiding the mention of gravity, because I know that for some reason you don't believe it exists).

FACT: If we drained the oceans and lakes, we would see there would be holes in the earth.. it would look like a slice of Swiss cheese floating in space.
No, there aren't holes in the earth like Swiss cheese haha. Someone's been watching too many sci Fi movies.

King James Bible
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
I know what the King James says. That's part of an introduction.

Genesis 1:1-2 NRSV
[1] In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, [2] the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.

The beginning is when God created or began to create.

Genesis 1:1-2 NRSVUE
[1] When God began to create the heavens and the earth, [2] the earth was complete chaos, and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.

Prior to that time when God began, or when God created the heavens and the earth in 6 days, the text does not tell us how long it was in its formless state.

The Bible doesn't suggest a young earth. As noted before, it describes an ancient Israelite cosmology.

Arguing that God is smarter than scientists is meaningless. Because God doesn't express a young earth in the Bible.
I was arguing that respect for God's wisdom is a smart thing for a person to have, not that God is smarter than scientists. God is smarter than scientists, but that was not my point.

I don't see what your argument is then, because I don't think anyone here is suggesting that God isn't wise or that any of our positions run against that (except flat earth positions, because nobody likes them).
