I have to ask, who are the YEC's ?
It stands for Young Earth Creationists, a name applied to people like me and, I think, you, that the universe is not billions of years old, but was created by God just a few thousand years ago.

Thanks David, if this is the case I'm with the YEC's :)

I don't understand these People who claim the earth is billions of years old, the mind boggles o_O
That is because 13.7 billion years with a margin of error at 200 million, or 15 billion years to 11.5 billion with a margin of error at 1 billion which less than 30 years ago was definitely bettween 7 and 20 billion years, which should have maybe been 26 billion years all along, just is not certainty at all. It is the best modern science can manage, and should be respected as such, but it really is not certainty. Not to mention numbers that high are so abstract that even the people who believe them cannot actually imagine it.

Then there is this - 95% of the energy contents of the universe are unknown to physics, which links to an article that I am finding very intriguing as it goes, I am not posting this to dismiss science, just to again emphasize that modern scientific method has not opened up the floodgates of all truth.

For those who may want to explore believing Genesis without ending up detatching from what little modern science has managed to ascertain, I just want to point them to this - Relativity of Time. It could be a workable start.

That's why you're not a scientist.
This is where you appear to be implying that there is something much smarter in modern science than there was in the world 6000 years ago.

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1-1

"Great is our Lord and mighty in power;
his understanding has no limit." Psalm 147-5

"Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!" Romans 11-33

"Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." John 1-3

All Bible verses NIV

For what scientists actually know, indeed more importantly do not know, I posted about it in #105. A person does not have to be a scientist to understand that the Creator of the Universe is wiser in mind boggling proportions to every single thing our fancy telescopes and hopeless little minds can come up with. Look at the mess we are making - space junk.

James Hutton and a number of Christian geologists aligned, making up scientific consensus on an old earth, back in the 1800s.

It's been over 200 years since geologists originally recognized that the earth is ancient. While additional precision has come about since the 1900s, this is no reason to conclude that the consensus has been wrong for centuries.

The Bible doesn't suggest a young earth. As noted before, it describes an ancient Israelite cosmology.

Arguing that God is smarter than scientists is meaningless. Because God doesn't express a young earth in the Bible.

"Smarter" is not a suitable word. Let us rather call it "more advanced".

Even though the intelligence is probably still roughly the same, we know much more, now.

So you don't believe the Bible's version of it ?
I believe the Bible's version of it:

I would say that it is the people who believe that the flood was global, who do not believe the Bible's version of it.

God made the earth in six days & rested on the seventh
Once again you've shown not to believe in God's word.

No no. He made the earth in 6 days.

Genesis 1:1-2 NRSVUE
[1] When God began to create the heavens and the earth, [2] the earth was complete chaos, and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.

But the Bible doesn't say how long the earth was formless and empty before he began making it in 6 days.

Are you new around here?

The deluge drowned the flat earth and all that was on it, how could the water have flooded a ball ? Impossible .........

No need to troll me. I'm not a flat earther.

However, if I lived 3,000 years ago, I might wonder such a thing (they didn't know about gravity back then).

Actually on that note, early church fathers such as Saint Augustine also doubted the existence of antipodes. Or people that lived upside down on the other side of the earth.

Early church fathers were not sure if the earth was completely round, or just arched shape or otherwise flat. Or if the earth rested in water or not. And for those that may have viewed the earth as a sphere, they were all geocentrists as well. It wasn't until the 1500s or so that heliocentrism was articulated and confirmed.
