Thoroughly furnished = nothing else provides what scripture provides.
Absolutely yes, nothing else provides what scripture provides.
But at the same time, nothing else provides what the Holy Spirit provides.
Only a complete fool would reject one in favour of the other.
Thus when the Lord speaks to me, telling me where to find my wife's stolen car, I will never ever ever ever find that in scripture, no matter how many times I read it.
Thus when the Lord gave me a day time vision of a unique way to repair a special purpose riveting machine in my factory, I would never ever ever ever find that in scripture, no matter how I searched, nor would I have come up with that solution myself.
Thus when, in the middle of a particularly traumatic time, the Lord told me one day in my prayers to go to a certain city about 50 miles away, and the next day, a friend walks up to me at work and says,
"I don't know what this means, but the Lord says 'Go to xxxxxx'" Thus confirming the same city that the Lord had given me, and giving me great encouragement to press on. Indeed, I went to that city and received an amazing encounter with the Lord.
When I gave a 60 year old man a word of knowledge, quoting a statement from his childhood that had blighted his whole life and business activity, he was totally shocked. I had quoted the exact words his teacher had told to his father at al parents evening,
"David is a waste of time, and nothing he ever does in life will come to anything".
As we prayed, that night he was gloriously set free from that curse.
No matter how much I searched scripture, I would never have found the root of what was troubling that man. Nor had I any previous knowledge of that man's background or childhood.
Thus when the Lord told me and my wife to urgently sell our house, we called in the agent and agreed a price with him. Less than two minute after he left the house, I walked out the front door to wash it down in preparation for the photographs. Before I started, a passer by started talking to me about something, and I happened to mention we were selling up and he immediately said he would buy it at the full price He didn't even want to look around.
No matter how I searched, I would never find instructions to sell my house by searching the scriptures, not the exact timing to do it.
No matter how much I know my scripture, I would never find a warning
whilst driving to suddenly start braking,
saving our lives from an upcoming crash around the next bend.
My list of words of knowledge, prophecies, visions etc received directly from the Holy Spirit, runs parallel and in tandem to my understanding of scripture. They are not in competition or conflict.
