How do we hear God's voice?

If you cherish scripture, take heed and don't go beyond what it says. Voices in head = not good.

Scripture says Abraham heard God and he had no scripture at that time.

Paul says that Christ speaks in him and other believers

2 Corinthians 13: 3. Since ye seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, which to you-ward is not weak, but is mighty in you….. 5. Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”

Abd

Proverbs 20: 27. The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.”

And

Psalm 51: 6. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.”

And God speaks his voice in the heart, inwardly,

Deuteronomy 30: 14. But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it…17. But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;”

Hebrews 4: 7. Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.”

Voice, in heart…

And yes, all scripture is given by inspiration of God and so to understand spiritual things we must have spiritual ears and eyes and our heart new

We also so I read verses like this

Acts 8: 29. Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.”

Philip heard the Spirit speak directly to him .This was a spiritual inward experience in his own spirit hearing the Spirit of God.

For his Spirit bears witness with our spirit

No scripture = no word of God.

The word of God came yo men before scripture was given. Even when prophets and others wrote scripture we read of the word of God coming to them first. This is the spiritual inward revelation of God to their spirit. Then when they heard the word of God they wrote it down.

Jesus said only those who are of God can hear Gods words. If a person is not of God and has spiritual life they cannot hear the word in truth.

Many heard Jesus speak words to them, but they did not all hear or have his word abiding in them as Jesus said. They could not hear his word even though with their natural ears heard.

I fear that many today read scripture and heard natural words but miss the spiritual.

We see the words in Revekation that show how we are to hear

Revelation 2: 29. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.”

Notice ears to hear what the Spirit says. Spiritual things are only understood by spiritual men 1 Corinthians 2

1 Corinthians 2: 9. But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 11. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. 12. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.”

I can’t stress the importance of these things enough.

Christianity is a spiritual walk. But spiritual things trouble those who are in the flesh the flesh cannot understand or know. So the flesh tries to make things understandable in a non spiritual way often. And do done even look only to scripture and think they have eternal life in them. They avoid how we understand scripture and seem to put more focus on human wisdom and learning and languages etc .

The Pharisees were like this and Jesus rebuked them;

John 5: 38. And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not. 39. Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. 40. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.”

And they thought they knew the scriptures so well, as many today do. But Jesus said to them;

Matthew 22: 29. Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.”

Many today also have a firm of godliness but deny the power

How do you know you are having a genuine experience if scripture doesn't confirm it?

I suppose if you were around Abraham when he heard God speak and to leave his land. You could have asked him “how do you know your having a genuine experience if scripture doesn’t confirm it?”

But Abraham may have said “what is scripture?

He didn’t have scripture to confirm it then.

Yes, now we have scripture and if we walk in the spirit the anointing teaches us all things and from scripture as well.
