How do we date sedimentary rocks?

No. Make up is the most appropriate term for it. Your version is most likely a lie.
Can you make any meaningful thing up? I guess not. It take something most people don't have much, the brain power.

I blow the wind (make up things),
You drift with it (respond to it).
It is one of the most satisfied feeling you could have.

I blow to the east, you swing toward the east. I blow to the west, you swing toward the west. I said to date the tree by isotopes, that crab guy said: you made it up. Ha ha ha ...

No. Any real smart things you can think of has probably been made up by someone long time ago. What's left for most people to play around are stupid things.

I am so eagerly to hear some smart make ups. Could you tell me one? Guess not. Do you think we can use U/Pb to date the sea water? Am I making it up on this one? Enjoy it.

Sea water dating, really? Really?

Oh well, I gave you a chance, but now we know we can just ignore your ramblings as the half-witted outpourings of a sulking teenager who isn't qualified to discuss the matter.

Everything you know was made up by someone at its very first time.

No it wasn't. Galileo did not make up the fact that moons orbit Jupiter. HE OBSERVED IT. Scientists are not making up the fact that zircons exclude Pb when they form. Scientists are not making up the fact that the U decay chain ends at stable forms of Pb. These are observations.

Your claim that U/Pb can be used for dating trees is made up from whole cloth. It is something you invented from no facts, and from a need to make it look like you have a point, which you don't.

It is a make up alright. But it is a good one. I could make a preliminary research proposal for it. I read a poster in a meeting which suggested that Chinese cabbage tends to absorb more Pb than other veggies. If the cabbage grew in an U enriched soil, voila, the cabbage would have an "age", even have an isochron.

Alright, it's your turn. Would you make up something for me? Please.

No, that is not the case.

Do you know people measured Sr isotope of seawater and use the data to support the history of plate tectonics?

I am afraid the crab guy is going to yell to me for making things up again. But be easy. This is not a fantasy, by is what people have done a few decades ago.

A few decades ago! That is outdated then.

You could get only a very rough idea of a date. The ocean is not a closed system so we would need to calculate how long various ions would remain in the system. I don't see how you could get a meaningful number using this method, but you might get a number with a very large margin of error.

A margin of error so large it wouldn't be useful. Ugh.

That seems to be the only sort of date that Juvie is comfortable with.

One that he can actually legitimately say is crap as needed, as he tries to lower the perceived reliability of how we date stuff?

Of course you don't.

Of course you don't.

And nor do you.

You don't use strontium isotope ratios in seawater to date seawater. That's not how it works.

It looks like you've been misunderstanding what you've been googling again, which is what we expect from you now.
