  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

 I'm so excited. Today we got some of our costumes back. They're sooooo cute. Some of them are classy and some are like things I've never seen before. There's just 1 thing, I would like 2 be a little bit skinnier and have some really nice abs. I was wondering if some of u could give me some advice that isn't the same as what I've been doing. Almost everyday I do a abs workout video and go running about 3 miles and do training stuff for volleyball and dance. So if u have any advice please help me out.

I don't think I am well enough versed on the politics of gaining "abs", so I don't this I should participate.

. . . I would like 2 be a little bit skinnier and have some really nice abs . . .
Yeah wouldn't we all?

You think it's bad now, wait til you're three times the age you are now and have popped out a few kids. You'll be grateful to be able to find your abs.

That said . . . WHY is this in the political forum???

I train in kickboxing, and just yesterday one of the instructors gave his opinion on the matter.

"If you do a short sit-up routine every 3 hours and stretch the muscles well afterwards, you'll start seeing abs in a few weeks".

Now I haven't done that myself, mine are coming over time through kickboxing, but it sounds fair enough. Not that I see how most people would have the time and privacy to do it every 3 hours :p

Hi Brianna.

Everyone has abs, with most of us there's just too much fat for them to be visible. You'll have to have a pretty low fat percentage for them to show. So your primary goal should be weight loss. Getting abs to grow should be secondary, and might not even be necessary.

Weight loss is achieved by consuming less calories than your body uses, it's as simple as that. With exercise you spend more energy, but you will get hungrier as well, and most people will as a consequence eat more, so if you don't have good control over your diet you will lose no weight by exercise alone. The key to weight loss is having control over what you consume. I advice weighing your food and calculating how many calories you consume. Eat the same amount of calories daily, and keep a close eye on how much you gain or lose. You can then adjust the daily intake of calories depending on how fast you need to lose weight. Try to lose 1 pound every week. If you lose weight too fast you will lose too much muscle tissue, so a pound per week is a good goal.

If you'd like your abs to grow, most workout videos and cardio will do nothing. Most people these days do 50 or 100 repetitions without weight, which is practically a waste of their time. The muscles will need weights that they are not used to. This means holding weights on your chest while doing sit-ups/crunches. Hold so much weight that you can do a maximum of 15 repetitions. If you can do more than 15 reps, then you need more weight. And do 3 sets of this, with 2-3 minute breaks in between. Train like this every second day, or pick 3 week days to do the training. Do not train every day, as your muscles needs to restitute, and such will only hinder your progress.

Peter

It seems like you are doing alot of excersizing right now as it is....
Honestly,I am a little worried about you wanting to loose weight and build abs,but it is based on your age.You are 12 years old!It isnt healthy for 12 yr olds to go on diets or try to get 'skinny' unless you have weight problem (and I doubt you do,if you are into volley ball and dance)
Your body is trying to grow, you need to feed it to be healthy and have proper growth.Going on diets at your age can result in stunted growth and development ...another big concern I have is the risk you are at for eating disorders.I am not trying to be judgemental toward you...just being honest.I had an eating disorder as a teenager. At 12 years old, your body fat is probably pretty low already..you haven't begun to 'fill out' yet.I am afraid that when you do,you will have some major issues with it.
It is also very difficult to build muscle at you age. Most women cannot put on very much muscle untill they are at least 18 to 20 years old. It's just the way it is.I started weight training at 16.I didnt see my abs untill I was about 21...when my muscles really started to develop.(due to weight training and proper diet).

You will stay thin if you continue to keep active in the activities you are already involved in.I would suggest eating a healthy diet with lots of fruit and vegetables (and protein for muscle growth).
Avoid fast food or fried food but dont 'diet'.

ABS. are made in the kitchen...

everyone has a set of abs.

concentrate on eating healthy LOW fat wholseome means that are centered on a low fat protein..

Ex:
Skinless/boneless chicken breasts
Turkey breast
Tuna
Salmon
Eye of Round
Filet
Whitefish

as well as complex carbs:
Ex:
Steel cut oats
whole grain breads
brown rice
Whole grains in general

as well as fiberous carbs from plant sources such as broccoli.

eat six smaller meals instead of three large this kicks your metabolism into overdrive!!
as well as drinking enough water.
Bodyweight X .66= how many ounces you should be drinking a day...
take a high quality multi/mineral supplement

combine this with a cardio workout and core excersises
( you should work more then just your abs!)
and you will be cut and fit..

remember Fitness is a lifestyle not a destination,
the most Important things needed are self discpline and the pride to make a change!
